Is it worth paying 6€ for ?
I recently got an iPad, it’s the first Apple device I’ve use. I am still not over the fact that I need to pay for a thing as basic as an ad-blocker, and that it will only work with Safari…
Welcome to the Apple world
I use AdGuard and Vinegar Extract (Vinegar without the adblock part). IIRC those are free and work well for me, so try them first.
Vote for AdGuard
I even paid for the pro version. They deserve it!
Second Vinegar. It’s an awesome little add-on.
I’d say so. I haven’t upgraded to Wipr 2, yet, but Wipr 1 is effective and simple. AdGuard has a free version that is good but, for whatever reason, involves a lot more settings changes. AdGuard has the advantage of letting you select elements and block them. Wipr doesn’t, don’t know if Wipr 2 has that.
If you want free, try AdGuard or Firefox Focus.
There’s wBlock if you can’t justify the cost. I just prefer supporting indie devs. Not sure how effective it is against YouTube ads though.
See my earlier comment: https://feddit.org/comment/3765971
There are a lot of options to block ads. I don’t pay for any apps and don’t see any ads on my Apple devices.
I’ve been using AdGuard for years, and I don’t ever have any problems with YouTube ads.
And it’s free
Are you able to block YT ads on Safari + AdGuard? That’s the combo I have, and it did work for a while, but nowadays, all YT videos stop at the 1 min mark. Seems like YT is beginning to block people who use ad blockers.
@Hamartiogonic @EleventhHour I know this sounds oldfashioned but I pay for YouTube premium. Not cheap, comes with four additional members. The YouTube Music categorisation is 100 times better than the Apple Music categorisation and indeed: no adds.
I’m not by principle against ad blockers but the money has to come from somewhere.
Yeah, that’s an entirely valid option. However, 15 €/month is a bit difficult to justify, given the quality I would get in return. The family plan might make more sense though.
@Hamartiogonic without family members I wouldn’t do it, indeed. Side note; it’s very difficult to get it working properly on the computers of the family members.
It’s very sad that brain is diarrhea. Best of luck.
Blocked
This level of toxicity is really impressive. Can I get sone sarin sauce on that plutonium burger, please?
If you check their comment history you can see that they seem to do this frequently with no real reason from what I can tell.
Oh, I’ve read lots of those comments. Truly fascinating stuff, and I think there is a reason. Here are some guesses.
- That user is suffering from some sort of mental issues. This seems like the obvious option, but I don’t think it’s the most likely one.
- It’s a social experiment. Someone is using it to gather information on how people respond to hostility online. I would love to carry out an experiment like that, but can’t justify the negativity that would be inherently involved in it. I’m really curious to find out how different instances, communities or even other social medias respond. Are some places more hostile or mature than others? What does it take to get your messages deleted or account banned? Who knows.
- It’s a piece of online art. That account is used for making a statement about online debates, hostility and the ways people react.
- It’s a personal goal. Who has the most downvoted account on Lemmy? That’s an achievement of sorts, I guess. This is the kind of stuff people do when they’ve already completed the main quest and most of the side quests.
- Plain old trolling. Sort of like point 4, but for entertainment purposes instead of questionable bragging rights.
Your continued and persistent, psychotic delusion isn’t my problem. Stop replying and making it my problem
Otherwise, I’m just gonna keep putting out your psychotic decisions.
Reply to this comment for more and the most insulting things you can hear. It will continue until you just shut the fuck up and stop replying.
Obviously, you don’t have that level of self-control, so I’m just going to have to give you horribly disgusting insults forever.
Unless you just stop. Otherwise it’ll go on forever.
I’ve pity your mental illusion. But not so much that I won’t infinitely shame you for it.
Oooh, free insults. Yes please.
You aren’t important enough to bother with.
You are appreciated the way you are. Here, have some flowers to cheer you up 💐🌸🌻
confirmed.
I’m unfamiliar with Wipr is it worth $6 for the new one or just pay $2 for the original?
I use KaBlock and Hush Nag Blocker. Both apps are availiable for macOS as well as for iOS. They are made to work with Safari. So far I haven’t had any issues with ads, even when watching Youtube videos. They are free. I would give them a try first. If they don’t work for you, you always can purchase wipr later.
Which one do you like better? I try not to overload my phone content blockers because it’s hard to troubleshoot if a site breaks. I see Hush Nag claims they are FOSS so I’m leaning towards it.
I discovered KaBlock first, and it did its job. I did not test it with Youtube tho. A couple of weeks ago someone mentioned Hush Nag Blocker and I installed it as well. I think they complete each other, as Hush makes Cookie-Banners disappear, which KaBlock doesn’t. Both KaBlock and Hush seem to block ads from Youtube - I haven’t experienced ads on smartphone so far (I skipped into maybe 3 to 5 videos on it in the last couple of weeks, as I have a data plan that isn’t tailored for video streaming).
Paying for a YouTube ad blocker instead of just paying for YouTube Premium seems a little silly.
YouTube premium just went up to like $80/month didn’t it? Seems a bit more than $5.
No, you’re thinking of YouTube TV. Different service.
Gotcha, I thought they were the same service.
Why cant the dev just update the original wipr? Why the need for wipr 2?
I bought the original wipr years ago. Havent used it in favor of adguard.
Because app developers can’t support themselves with a $5 app that people use for half a dozen years.
Skip buying one drink or appetizer and pay for an app to support people who make great things.
Appies are like $13 where I am. A beer, $7-9.
This is a steal!
Newtube is all you need
Edit : Oh apple. Never mind.
