They were worn in the mess hall at lunch to keep the cleats on their boots from messing up the floor.

Those are some good-lookin’ boots. Probably takes a few minutes to tie the laces though…
Nah, they’re called speed laces for a reason. Just takes some practice. https://youtu.be/e1ORA8OtJag
🤯
The real TIL is always in the comments.
Cool video, though it doesn’t look like the older pic used that technique. The lace paths don’t match up.
Look at those nails. Makes sense they used those sandals to walk indoors
More boring and nich practical than you’d expect.
So lumberjack boots have steel spikes on the bottom for climbing and doing lumberjack things.
These “sandals” were essentially just spike covers so they could get lunch without having to take their boots off or mess up the floors.
🎶I‘m a lumberjack and I‘m okay, I wear socks at night and sandals all day… 🎶
Is there an equivalent for clipless bicycle shoes?
wtf are boot caulks.

I see, the spikes on boots
Sounds kinky
Surprised these are not hipster cafe sandals already.
Reminds me of pattens, except they’re for shoes that already have soles.
Sandles that go under boots.
Those might be the only kind of sandles I could tolerate.
I read lumberjack scandals and was a bit confused for a second.
