If’n I had a group to play with, I’d be keen to try a character with some sort of handicap relevant to their class: a one arm fighter or a mute caster or some such. Would be fun to learn how to workaround things like vocal spell components cannot be used or only one hand weapons.

Story is kinda optional. Depends on the genre. I’m big into Factorio and Dwarf Fortress, which go light (kinda? Df is a story generator?) on story, but big on mechanics.

I believe getting rid of innate alignments was the right choice. The racism might have been why, but the issue I always took with it was the alignments being too broad and ill-defined.
