Another day, another product joining the Google graveyard. On the upside, this time it’s not a messaging app.
From The Verge:
"You might remember Google had a $5,000 Jamboard whiteboarding meeting room display — well, that’s also discontinued. The Jamboard hardware will no longer receive software updates on September 30th, 2024, and its license subscriptions will expire the same day.
“Then users will have until December 31st, 2024, to back up Jam their files, and on that date, Google will cut off access and begin permanently deleting files.”
Pity the schools, universities, and businesses that paid Google $5000 for a “smart” whiteboard, only to now be told their files will be deleted.

At this point if you invest into any new Google product than that’s on you lol
Which means bard (and any new AI offering) is already dead?
🔫 Always has been
You definitely always fear that it could be a possibility with Google.
Like with Google Plus. Did you know they gave out internal bonuses if teams integrated Google Plus into their product lines? The whole thing was setup to win and disappeared basically the same year. It’s kinda amazing.
looks at 10 year old Chromecast
And Chromecast Audio.
Any organisation that invests in physical hardware that requires cloud to work is bonkers. Those whiteboards don’t need cloud. And google is too big to care for long term customer satisfaction.
Yeah, hearing this turns me off even more for the Chromebook.
Please someone correct me if I’m wrong in that being pretty much entirely cloud based.
I don’t know about ChromeOS but the good news with the majority of Chromebooks I know about is that you can still install linux on them if you want. The bad news is that at their price point you might as well just buy a used or new but low end laptop if you’re gonna do that.
Obviously that’s not good news is you explicitly want chromeos but the hardware at least won’t be bricked if they decide to trash their chromeos services.
i yearn for the day that google is listed on the google graveyard (the search engine and the company) and i will genuinely laugh if it ever happens in my lfietime
This was a component of a messaging app. I started using Jamboard at a company that used Google Workspace because it was integrated into Google Meet. Real nice and easy way to keep a whiteboard going. They’ve replaced it with other solutions like Figma and Miro now, but that means I now have to create new accounts for my org and unless we pay a premium, the tools don’t have SSO, just social auth. It’s not a personal inconvenience; it is a huge business inconvenience.
Is Google the company that has canceled the most products?

Unsurprising.
Someone was unkind to cats and ADHD sufferers by suggesting Google was like a kitten with ADHD in attention span to projects & products. Also Betas?
Moral: Don’t depend on Google/Alphabet for ANYTHING. Only use Google docs to collaborate information stored outside of Google.
Don’t lump us in with Google. We try not to be evil, it just kinda gets away from us a lot.
Mhhh… does it run linux?
