I must point out, I don’t remember sexual violence being part of the game (I played only 3 and 4, though).

I really wish they hadn’t included it. I personally found it unenjoyable to watch those first couple episodes because of it.

(Dear reader: If you’re first reaction to my opinion is that sexual violence against women in this setting is realistic and fits in the show, 1) this is a series with mutant animals caused by radiation and a guy in a robot suit 2) you don’t think much of your fellow man if you think it’s inevitable 3) it’s just like, my opinion, man)

I haven’t watched the whole first season but we’re about halfway through and they didn’t mention it again. It would have been worse if the main character herself felt more… harmed, but she seems very utilitarian about it. I feel pretty mid about the show overall (for more reasons than just this), and I’m just really tired of acts of sexual violence showing up in media that’s meant to be goofy entertainment.

I can’t believe this comment chain is this long and no one has pointed out that drunk and stoned humans are terrible at figuring stuff like this out.

You’re not planning for the dumbest human trying in earnest. You’re planning for humans who are tired, distracted and/or chemically altered. A 80 IQ person can figure out a weird trash can eventually if they are trying.

These comments (not just yours) feel misanthropic. I haven’t been to a campsite in ages so I don’t know what sort of trash can puzzlebox we’re talking about, but I work somewhere with alcohol so I can guess what the true issue is.

You are always free to host your own lemmy instance. Then you can choose to federate with whoever you want.

If I hosted an instance, I wouldn’t want to host hate speech or weird porn, and it would also be my right to not do so.

I also wouldn’t want to bother moderating a lemmy instance for people I didn’t know, and having to hear their demands for what they want to see/not see. That’s just me, personally and I’m glad there are people out there doing the work for me.

What I’m saying is, if you’re going to interact with a platform with possibly millions of users there’s going to be ground rules, and those take time to agree on. Lemmy is unique in that you can move to an instance that fits you better. I don’t think social media should be monetized, but we can’t ignore they take time and money to run. You have to compromise on somethings sometimes.

Or you can just run your own.

You might find friends here if you weren’t so combative. This community is full of socialists, communists and other related left-leaning folks, not democrats.

We still see republicans for who they are: fascists, in the traditional meaning of the word, not as a catch-all insult for people we don’t like.

I just own an iPhone so I don’t think I can engage with you with all these critiques. I bought it because at that point in time, it was cheaper than a Samsung. I had concerns about privacy, and it seemed like apple had better control of their App Store and there was less crapware there.

I had tried a custom android rom before this (it must have been around 2013, cyanogenmod) but it was too early in development maybe, and it sucked. It might have been the phone I installed it on. At any rate, I gave up on custom roms for a bit.

My job uses iPhones for an industry specific dispatch software that does not use the cellular network. So I am glad Im familiar with iPhone software, though I wouldn’t have bought one just for this reason. They were using iPods for the software before that, but the iPods didn’t have replaceable batteries and had to be disposed of (which is a shame, they were much smaller)

My iphone is 5-6 years old now, I’ll buy something else when I have to. Probably something I can try lineageOS or whatever the new rom is.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think the fediverse isn’t quite that fragile. Instances can always close new sign ups if they’re overwhelmed. More users means more donations and more people likely to self host, too.

I guess we could run into real issues if fediverse infrastructure doesn’t scale well (example: required server resources scale exponentially with more users instead of linearly)

In extreme circumstances instances can defederate from larger ones if their mod teams are overwhelmed (obviously this isn’t a good solution but it is something beehaw.org is doing/did with lemmy.world)

So much of math was difficult to teach or obscure because of difficulties in visualization or computation. Surely there would have been at least one wizard over hundreds of years that could figure out how to use the powers of illusion magic to visualize things? To demonstrate integrals to the unfamiliar? To render a fractal like a julia set?

Even if magic iteslf followed little internal logic, it could be used as a tool, surely? But that’s the sort of fridge logic (warning tv tropes link) that maybe didn’t belong in a story book like Harry Potter. I had to stop reading anyway around the time house elves were introduced, anyway. I took issue with that stuff even when I was a kid.

I agree. I usually like Karl’s content but his tone really did a disservice to this story. He really should have consulted someone that knows USA charity law for this. I don’t think he’s wrong, he just needed more credibility for his video. He’s also Australian, so US law isn’t something I’d expect him to know at all.

I don’t see how the completionist could make these claims about donating to specific cherities without actually donating a single cent until someone noticed. Surely USA charity law isn’t so broken that this is legal?

I can’t find the ratings for the original (the game may be older than ERSB) but black and white 2 is T for teen. It has sacrifice, murder, child abuse, etc as a mechanic for the “evil” route.

I’m sure there are more games like this. I remember drowning my Sims for fun as a child and I’m pretty sure that game is also T.

I have played cult of the lamb, and there wasn’t really anything in it a highscooller shouldn’t see.

(Edit: I have done no research on the dlc. The marketing does look edgy, but that doesn’t mean the content is inappropriate. I don’t plan on buying the DLC. Imho the art was cute but the gameplay was mid. Also, personal opinion, poop management as a mechanic is boring and dumb.)

There was an era of reddit where some nerds used addons to tag users for their own personal notes. Nothing wrong with making your own tags for people, imo.

But I do remember there were extensions for “mass tagging”. You could install browser extensions to label people based on their post history. Someone would run a script, aggregate data, put little tags on people based on how they post. Like, maybe you would install a tagger to label people who don’t agree with you politically, based on someone’s aggregated data.

I never personally liked the mass tagging stuff. It felt toxic to put people you don’t know in boxes. But, I never felt like it should be prevented. At the end of the day if you post something publicly, you shouldn’t be surprised when people respond to that.

But, some people here might not realize how public their vote history is. Not sure anyone wants weird graphs about how they vote. I upvote a lot of stuff, I’m sure a lot of people upvote stuff they don’t totally agree with. Maybe I’m imagining a problem where there isn’t one. I’ve just seen how weird people get when it’s easy to put people in boxes.

In order to read gmails, you have to work at google.

In order to read the upvotes on this post, all you have to do is spin up your own lemmy instance. Anyone with technical knowledge can do it. The problem is a bit different. I could do it, if I was motivated.

If lemmy gets popular enough, there will be 3rd party sites with search bars and nice UIs and graphs to help you see how someone votes.

Not sure what the solution is. Maybe if we can’t make votes private, they should be fully public.
