  • On the state level, there are protections (for now) since a ton of stuff has to be done to the constitution to remove such powers and they don’t have the majority needed for that. Sure there are loopholes, but for every fed willing to turn a blind eye, there’s a state rep willing to disregard their made up policy. CA already has a lawsuit fund, lol.

The federal level gets dicier. Despite the kiss asses on the GOP side, I don’t think they’ll have the courage to do deeply unpopular things for their region. For instance, removing the Dept of Education isn’t popular in places that get a lot of that Title I money. That ain’t a safe guard the Dems put in place, per se, but they made it in 79 under Carter and even Reagan couldn’t get the support to undo it in 80.

Any current safe guards? Biden is unfortunately very bad at these things as far as I can tell and what good he did will likely be credited to Trump despite the truth. Best we’ve got I think is just trying to sure up as much Ukraine support as possible. The house Dems might have the best shot, though, given the narrow lead. With Senate, it’s probably a good thing Manchin wouldn’t let Dems abolish the filibuster… although the GOP might go ahead and do that themselves this time. Senators don’t really have to answer to their constituents because of incumbent advantage, so there isn’t at much deal making like in the house.

  • Obligatory mention that ExoDos exists. Look it up.

Y’know, I kind of get why a storefront would prefer delisting when there’s just a more complete or more “HD” version. I’ve had a friend buy an old version of a game for the same price as the “complete” version since both were up and he didn’t check. Blizzard is obviously just trying to promote their remake, but I wouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

(I’d still prefer having options, though, and that option should be free because playing the DOS version of Warcraft 2 would likely help promote the HD version, as sort of a demo. That game is fire and deserves the love, too bad the execs are morons).

  • Oh hey, I did that!

There’s two problems I faced. One was I bought a used 1080 once I could afford the second one, and it was weirdly noisy (it also might be the one that broke first). Also you need a pretty hefty PSU. I forget how big I went… 1000? 1200? Anyway, other than that it rocked… like 7 years ago. Lol

  • While that take is correct in 98% of circumstances, this isn’t one of them for a couple of reasons. BG3 has enough content at release to play for several years and have different experiences each time. The fact that it’s getting free additional content is more so because of people making the game popular in it’s first year, showing that CRPGs aren’t dead, etc. The game won literally every GotY award, for crying out loud.

There’s not a ton of other games I’d say this is bad take, but you know, it’s like complaining about Terraria or Dead Cells or something. At some point you get the game and you return to it periodically.

The only two reasons to put it off? You’re too poor or you don’t have time for a 300+ hour time investment. It’s not gonna get a steep discount anytime soon, though.

  • I adore the first trilogy of DQ games but I’m holding off cause I don’t like or trust SE anymore (plus, denuvo, ugh).

I will say, it’s a better experience to play 1 thru 3 in order with no prior knowledge of what makes them a trilogy. Having 3 stand alone kind of misses that “oh fuuuuuuuck” realization I got to experience (and subjected a friend to, who has yet to forgive me lol). It’s what made 3 one of my favorites next to 5 and 11.

  • I was never much of a social media guy, especially after moonlighting one summer as a social media marketer on Twitter and Instagram (really, really kills it for ya), but I was a redditor for a while.

I swapped over to Lemmy exclusively during the API fees, but to be fair I was already getting frustrated by the service. The karma farming was just too much, so many stupid reposts of the same stupid made up wholesome stories and crap. I think I only miss r/comics and r/idiotsincars, the later requiring a critical mass of people to actually be worthwhile.
