Dogs mostly chose to live with us, and many have the ability to survive without us.
Wolves did, or whatever mutated variant it was, and then we created a whole bunch of different breeds. Some of them might be able to survive. Some of them can’t even breed on their own, because humans are idiots.
Cats understand that humans are a factor, and decide to work around that factor.
That’s basically how they live with humans in the first place, they’re not properly domesticated, just happens that they can live with us.
TNG was close to having a transgender episode, “The Outcast”, but they were stuck in their time and didn’t really make any kind of statement.
TOS made several comments on religion and running into powerful beings. In particular “Who Mourns for Adonais?”, which would’ve been a great take if not for Kirk saying “Mankind has no need for gods. We find the one quite adequate”.

And yeah, it probably should be higher. Per person oil and gas income for the state of Norway was $24 000 last year (at the current exchange rate). Although I haven’t checked per capita oil and gas extraction.
Spend all the money that’s spent trying to find welfare cheats (and cost more than they could possibly save anyway) on basic income instead.

And it’s just that much messier if non-humans are part of the cycle. Hundreds of billions of farm animals and semi-domestic species like rats, and all the rest of nature. They don’t get opt-outs.
Ideally it would mean everyone’s united in improving society for everyone and especially raising minimum standards, when you could end up as anyone.
The alternative is stop traveling such huge distances all the time.

We didn’t really get more of the TNG side of things with the TNG movies. Then they moved on to JJA Star Trek, which wasn’t much of anything, not dark, not utopian, just references.
While Discovery was in part based around rescuing an ultra-fascist from another universe.
It took bringing back Picard himself to approach doing what they once did decades ago. And I guess not let the actor have too much say over the script, if that’s what messed up the movies.
