didn’t like aw so skipped aw2 until my library has a free copy
Alan Wake 2 has a DLC that ties in pretty heavily with Control, so you’ll definitely want to play that before the new game comes out.

Added Abandon Battle option in the pause menu which can now be opened in battle
Finally. No more waiting around to die to reset the fight when you mess up.

I guess I’m confused because I didn’t know that “low budget” was now synonymous with “indie.”
There aren’t any hard rules of what an indie game is, and TGA don’t set any because they don’t take their jobs seriously, but it’s usually accepted that indie = small teams, small budget. Otherwise, technically games like Cyberpunk 2077 are “indie” because they’re self-published, while games published by Devolver Digital are technically not indie because they have a publisher despite the games being made on a tiny budget and occasionally created by only one person.
Expedition 33 had a huge budget compared to other games in its category, and much more developers. They had mo-cap, they had popular voice actors, and they had tons of contract workers overseas. It’s not fair to put it up against games that didn’t have any of that.
E33 is what the industry refers to as a AA game. Mid-sized budget, mid-sized team. As opposed to AAA, massive budgets with massive teams.
What about No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky (on release) is way smaller in scope than E33. It was made by around a dozen developers only, and they actually self-published it which makes it much more “indie”.

Ehhh, I dunno. I’m hoping this franchise evolves in some way because this looks like more Megaman 11, which was just more old-school Megaman. There have been way too many 2D platformer games in the franchise if you look at it, and not much has changed since Megaman X.
Bring back Megaman Legends or something!

I guess we’re DMC now. I loved Control and AW2, but the gameplay for both was so-so. Glad to see they’re branching out, this looks awesome.

For what it’s worth most people are more mad that E33 won best indie and best debut indie. It’s not an indie game, many people have said as much and it’s completely unfair that they won in categories meant for small budget games by small teams.
Totally deserved in other categories, but that does leave a bad taste in my mouth.

How is this Nintendo’s fault lol
The Switch 2 could absolutely handle Skyrim at 60fps if not 120, it’s not their fault Bethesda half-assed the port.

It’s releasing next month, so you won’t have to wait much longer.

Sweet. There have been a lot of Rhythm Heaven clones over the years, but this one looks like the most promising.

Not at all what I expected from the Rogue Legacy devs. It looks like Into the Breach but with a fantasy/DnD style. Keeping my eye on this one.

Great article, but a very painful one to read. Mina the Hollower was one of my most anticipated games this year, and it sucked that it got delayed the same month it was supposed to release in.
What was once considered a less ambitious side project is now the company’s largest game ever. “We basically had to redo everything,” D’Angelo says. If they’d all stuck together from the beginning, Gordon says, “we would’ve finished it two to three years ago.”
So it sounds like the game got delayed because they were split into two teams. One was working on a 3D Shovel Knight sequel, and one was working on Mina the Hollower. The person directing the latter was struggling and slowed down the project, so they fired a bunch of people, focused on Mina, and basically restarted its development.
The good news is that if things go to plan, they said they’ll revisit the 3D Shovel Knight game. I’m really looking forward to that.
Oh my god, I’ve wanted to play this game like 10 years ago but avoided doing so because I heard it’s pay to win. Soon I can finally find out what it’s all about. Being patient pays off!

He’s always been pretty chill unless someone is trying to merge code he doesn’t like into the Linux kernel, then he’d throw 20 back-to-back emails insulting that guy and go back to the Linus we know.
There’s !nomanssky@lemmy.world but it’s not super active. You’re bound to find some fans in the general gaming communities like this one though.
