kbotc@lemmy.worldto Star Wars Memes@lemmy.world•This is outrageous! It's unfair!English29·3 months agoGridiron. There’s also Rugby, Australian rules, and Canadian Rules Football. Most of the world plays association football.
kbotc@lemmy.worldto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Able to run the biggest open source LLMs*, but can't run RDR2 or Cyberpunk 2077 LMAOEnglish1·3 months agoThe cocoa and swift runtimes are open source and the languages themselves are open source. The big pieces that are not are the window manager.
Speaking from my own personal mental health journey: Those bits of advice that didn’t work 5 years ago may work now. I couldn’t use mindfulness while my ADHD/C-PTSD was at its peak, but after working on a few other things, suddenly it became a useful tool even if I couldn’t use it for years and years. The advice was still good, but refusing to return to a tool because it didn’t immediately work in the past and getting frustrated and letting that frustration turn to anger doesn’t get me what I am looking for.
kbotc@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.de•Client-Side-Scanning: 'Chat Control is Pure Surveillance State'English2·1 year agoHow do they enforce the GDPR?
kbotc@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•The EU are voting on Chat Control this Wednesday 19th JuneEnglish5·1 year agoThey literally will do that. GDPR shows that they will go after big American companies (That’s the point, a huge chunk of this is protectionism to build a tech industry in the EU that they control)
I mean, the Linux lmza exploit was found by a Microsoft engineer. Just because dollars exchange hands doesn’t mean the data provided is invalid.
Companies hire Jepsen to validate their code for example, and you’d be a damn fool not to accept their analysis.
Rossman has a vendetta against Apple ever since he got caught importing counterfeit batteries (You can’t slap the Apple logo on batteries that Apple did not make, even if you call them “refurbished”)
Yep, Trump’s campaign figured out how to game Reddit’s algorithm. Sticky a post and essentially tell anyone in the subreddit to upvote any stickied post on any visit which would quickly drive the stickied post to the top of all quickly.

Dude saw a valgrind error and a function with a fixed runtime was taking too long and using too much CPU and reversed out and saved a major ssh backdoor from going upstream as Fedora was going to release it just days later.
kbotc@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•I am genuinely horrified to see how much data google collected from meEnglish4·1 year agoIt is literally not the tip of the iceberg. I work in the industry, so lecturing me about data management platforms is asinine. Microsoft and Apple’s collection practices are minuscule compared to Google’s and DMPs are terrible at their jobs.
kbotc@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.ml•I am genuinely horrified to see how much data google collected from meEnglish32·1 year agoFeel free to go request the same fucking data from
Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102208
And Microsoft: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/18/how-to-download-a-copy-of-everything-microsoft-knows-about-me.html
Then go ahead and tell me they’re in the same ballpark as what Google’s collected on you.
Not enough to buy Bortles Era Jacksonville Jags, much less now when they are somehow much worse.

kbotc@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are so many countries in the world “developing” and poor, while essentially only Western countries have a high standard of living?English3·1 year agoThe actual research that you’re giving Taiwan credit for is US research. There’s a reason the US was able to tell the Dutch government “You can’t allow this hardware to go to China.”
The basic research for the Extreme Ultraviolet lithography was done at US DOE labs as a hedge against Japan dominating the world semiconductor supply. The US allowed a few companies in as part of the EUV-LLC private-public partnership, and ASML ended up buying out the other players who had the licenses from the US. The EU certainly had a hand in the research after the test bed was built proving it could work. https://www.sandia.gov/media/ultra.htm
Quartz is the old macOS graphics framework, but the mouse shaking is probably just a cool show off feature of Core Animation. There’s uncontested Windows ports on GitHub, so I doubt Apple will throw any fits for Linux.
StarCraft or Warcraft 3 from the ages of those computers.
Ciri has a relationship with a woman in the books, so I’m not sure you will miss what I assume you’re referring to as “the masculine indulgences” as much as you think you will.
On the other hand, CDPR retconned a shedload of that book so we shall see.
