i think you missed the part where the damage is twenty years extant.

i mean i’ll consume fiction in short bursts (like fanfic chapter updates) but it’s very hard to focus on large paragraphs and i get annoyed that by the end i’m not absorbing the material at all. something i had subscribed to on ao3 came out with a chapter recently that used basic html colour rendering for some of the chapter’s symbolism but it clashed with my dark theme and was unreadable and i had to ask the co-author if it was okay if i used reader mode to actually see the fucking words.

also i got punished for spending too much time on the computer in my teens by having to spend time reading books. i absolutely abhor the format of physical books now. i’m an OG harry potter hater because my stepmom started me on the 4th book and i was so fucking lost on what anything was. i did end up going back and reading the first 3 and enjoying them and finally understanding the 4th, but i got halfway thru book 5 (when it was new) and i was just so over it all.

so far my setup using disroot’s searxng instance with ublacklist (already mentioned), some recommended blocklists for it, and banger for universal DDG bangs has been extremely non-frustrating (except one crashout i had when ublacklist updated with a method for adding custom search engines which forced me to write a custom entry for disroot that didn’t initially work despite it working OOB perfectly fine before that) and my preferred experience. another example of my linux user autism taking over.

it’s been very hard for me to focus on, especially with life kicking me in the teeth lately, but for the last 4 years or so i’ve been slowly chipping away at a “sequel” fic to infinity train book 4 that explores weird things that could happen long after you disembark the train. or rather, weird things that could happen almost immediately when min-gi speedruns to the bargaining stage of grief after ryan bleeds out from getting stabbed in a bar fight during a gig and accepts the help of a rogue morgue technician to try and resurrect him.

it’s meant to be “b-grade” horror with some comedy, gay romance (ofc), and high-concept necromantic lore… but in my head it’s mostly ghoul ryan go brrrrr.

yeah that makes sense. earlier in the year when we had to heavily budget groceries, we’d end up getting packages of precut beef strips and lower quality ground beef and some of the meals prepared with them by my partner’s mother were always really off. and yeah i think it’s absolutely because they weren’t seared if i understood this correctly.

another food-related one i’ve noticed: sometimes walking through the bread aisle, some types of tortillas seem to give off a strong stale smell as well. ETA: it’s probably cornmeal actually. wet cornmeal has a horrid smell.
