Socialism and communism, in theory, are structured to prioritize the needs of the people over profit or power. That slogan captures that ideal beautifully. However, history shows that the implementation of these systems falls short of their ideals. Issues like bureaucratic inefficiency, corruption, or the consolidation of power within ruling parties have led to systems that still reward the powerful or productive, just in different ways. I’d argue that the challenge isn’t the system itself but the difficulty of designing any system that fully aligns with such principles while addressing the complexities of human behavior and societal needs. Capitalism embraces it while socialism and communism pay lip service to ideals while also committing the same sins in practice. My point that it’s not exclusive to capitalism remains.

Besides slavery, I cannot think of any successful societal system to date that did not prioritize rewarding the productive and/or powerful. Not saying that you’re wrong, just that it’s far from exclusive to capitalism. (The bar for “success” here being a society that exists over many generations)

From an engineering standpoint, liquid fuels have a far greater energy-to-weight ratio than batteries. Some of the largest advancements in combustion engines for the purpose of conveyance were made during the world wars. Noise was something they actively fought against. Loud tanks are scary, but unexpected tanks are much scarier. If they really needed it to be loud, sirens exist (see: Jericho siren). The energy-to-weight problem is only now finally being solved via modern batteries using exotic materials and processes well outside of early 1900’s technology.

Zomboid was originally inspired by CDDA. Much of the game flow and ideas are 1 to 1 copies. The biggest difference is that CDDA is a turn based game that is played on tiles (think rogue or nethack). From the inventory system to crafting to base construction to reading books, it’s all there.

Oh. Except bites aren’t instant death. There’s no zombie virus. Dead bodies rise up (including yours!). You can still get infections and die from them, but you can also just clean your wounds. 1v1-ing a zombie is suicide though unless you have a decent weapon.

Also, zombies evolve… So they scale well into the late game. Having a zombie hulk throw you through a concrete wall and breaking every bone in your body is usually lethal.

If you’re enjoying Project Zomboid, you might want to check out Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (CDDA). It’s a fantastic open-world survival game with a similar vibe, but it offers a lot more depth and complexity in its gameplay mechanics. Best part? CDDA is free and open-source.

Prestidigitation RAR can’t change your clothes. That’s the level 1 spell disguise self. It could change the color, but it should still be fairly obvious that you’re the same person. Personally If I did allow it, I would require a very hard bluff check to convince them that you aren’t the same person. Not even a disguise check. If you used a disguise kit though, I would probably let it slide depending on how many people the guards have interacted with since.

I had players nearly end their campaign when they were about to use’fireball’ in an active sawmill that a death cult was hiding out in. Luckily one of them realized a moment before what the implications would be.

Nah. It’s just projection. Even though I use Linux myself, it’s nearly always the other way around with the lecturer trying to tell Windows users to switch to Linux while the average gamers are just happily gaming away on what works for them.

Worm girl’s tutorial YouTube series was what finally got me started. A lot of early survival is just “avoid all combat”. Skills are everything in this game. A little melee skill & a reasonable weapon (such as a wooden cudgel) can be the difference between easily killing a zombie and dying to it. You can get both of those in the basic shelter without ever leaving.

Body encumbrance & move cost (such as luring an enemy zombie into tall grass before engaging) can also make a huge difference.
