Crazy that Marx and Engels weren’t socialists.
Remember kids, the US government would absolutely never explicitly kidnap and traffick thousands of children for the sole purpose of sexual favors and blackmail. They’re the good guys.

The bad .world instance has access to this instance, and they absolutely hate when you insult their God king or their preferred side of the uniparty.
It’s simply not a part of the fediverse and it’s centralized to a single instance. It’s not any different than Twitter, except no one interesting uses it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is most concerning to you about the next four years?English
121·1 year agoIt’s a common estimate that by 2030 we’ll probably have the first blue ocean event, but at the rate we’ve accelerated fossil fuels use along with the military build up and use promised by Trump it’s increasingly likely we’ll see it before then, during Trump’s term.
So, the entire collapse of the food chain.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should one give money directly to homeless people?English
4·1 year agoThat’s nice, but there is no excuse for higher overhead than the amount of money actually spent on the problem, when the problem objectively can be solved by direct expenditure.
We know how to eliminate homelessness and the causes behind it even in a capitalist society. It doesn’t cost a billion per 100 transitional housing units.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should one give money directly to homeless people?English
504·1 year agoYes.
Yes, they might use it for drugs or alcohol, that’s fine, it’s as important as food sometimes.
Non profits and charities are great in theory, but most redirect less than 10% of what they receive towards the homeless look at LA’s projects as the most glaring example, it “takes” 10 million+ per single housing unit for temporary housing. Not due to cost, but simply corruption at every level. From the non profits involved to the government itself.
Giving directly to the homeless skips all that.
Or to put it another way, you can’t fix the problem or treat symptoms by continuing to give money to the cause of the problem. Giving directly at least treats the symptom.

5·1 year agoAh, fair. I blame Saturday morning cartoons and a transition from violence for fun towards self harm. No need to punch each other or slap fight for competition if you can just see who can stand the most warheads at a time.

1·1 year agoExcept it’s currently working in practice in many countries, one of which is more successful by every measure than the US. Also Marxist-leninism is responsible for being more people out of poverty than any other system of socioeconomics.

Not really. Certainly some “encryption” algorithms or really implementations have backdoors, but RSA for example doesn’t. Encryption is only worthwhile if it’s mathematically sound, and you can’t backdoor mathematics without some random undergrad working on their maths degree figuring out for fun.
