I’ve been on Lemmy for 4 months now. I’ve never had any problems with the rules. In fact, I haven’t had any problems with any of the instances so far, even those that people consider “extreme” (like Hexbear and Lemmy.ml, people often complain about problems with their users, I personally haven’t had any problems at all with them; on the contrary, I usually interact there in a productive and peaceful way, even when I disagree with them on some things).

I think it has more to do with people’s behavior than with the strictness of certain instances/communities. I always try to be respectful. Respectfulness is the key.

The following are my personal views regarding the divine. In order to better address my views, I’m going to use verbs such as “to be” (is/isn’t, are/aren’t) and “to have” (has/hasn’t, have/haven’t). However, it doesn’t mean factual statements, so it shouldn’t be taken as absolute truth. It’s just what I believe, so I may be wrong.

For context, my belief is the result of a syncretic approach that encompasses several religions and belief systems, with some borrowing from scientific concepts. I tend towards Luciferianism, but I’m neither restricted to a specific belief system nor I’m religious nor initiated.

Also, it’s very complex and multifaceted. It’s very complex and multifaceted to put into simpler words. Throughout this comment, I needed to try and simplify a lot of concepts, should it be much longer in order to fully grasp the complexity of the cosmic and divine principles.

I see the divine as two complementing poles, akin to Yin and Yang: there is a Goddess and a God. Many ancient religions used to believe and worship a dual divine, from Ancient Egypt (e.g. Isis and Osiris), Hebrews (Asherah and Yahweh), indigenous people such as Tupi-Guarani (Jaci and Tupã), among others.

They’re both opposite and complementary aspects within the divine. Complemented in balance, they make the Divine, similar to Baphomet: the androgynous, hermaphrodite, fully perfect Divine, the convergence of Lucifer and Lilith, whom are archetypes of the Divine.

Opposing, they get into a kind of a cosmic tug-war yet they seek balance, not exactly a “fight”/“war”, as It’s complicated to put into words, but it’s just the nature of opposites: they attract each other, but they are still opposites trying to be the frame of reference to the other (it’s like they’re eternally arguing: “Light came from my Darkness!”, “no, Darkness came from my Light!”; it’s just a matter of each one’s perspective, both are right).

This is mirrored within the creation of the cosmos (as per Hermetic Principle of Correspondence “As above, so below”): matter and energy, antimatter and ordinary matter, black-holes and stars/planets/asteroids/nebulae), etc. Fundamentally, it’s darkness and light, absence and presence, non-existence and existence. By darkness, it doesn’t imply “evil” or “bad”: what we see as “good” and “evil” are oversimplifications of a much complex cosmic tapestry. Neither She is necessarily evil nor He is necessarily good. They are both capable of both good and evil (just like there’s Yang within the Yin, and there’s Yin within the Yang).

However, what we see as “human emotions” are different kinds of energetic signatures. Scientifically, we could point out how neurotransmitters are composed by different chemicals, which are composed by different atoms, which are composed by a different sum of charges (different count of electrons and nuclei). This “energetic signature” could be seen as resonating with equivalent energetic signatures (so a happy song resonates better with a person currently in a happy mood, for example; a grayed sky, devoid of chromatic diversity, resonates better with a person currently in a sad mood, which is experiencing a “lower energy state”).

The distinct poles within the Divine resonate with different energetic signatures (with Goddess, imbued with what we’d call as feminine energy, resonating with a much larger spectrum of emotions than God, imbued with what we’d call as masculine energy), which in turn resonate with different “emotions”. We, humans, interpret this as “Divine with emotions”, but it’s just a cosmic principle. As we experiment “emotions”, we’re experimenting the same cosmic principle, so we are just the micro mirroring the macro, “as above, so below”.

Again, it’s just my current belief, it’s just my way of seeing the Divine. I may be wrong, I don’t know.

I was trying Terraria, which has a lot of creativity possibilities. I was trying to earthwork/terraform a small world (i.e. trying to make it level from ocean to ocean), while simultaneously “voidforming” another small world (i.e. digging out every single “removable” block before Hardmode, which obviously excluded Lihzard temple blocks, Dungeon blocks and Crimson/Corruption altars; for lava, I was using the infinite bucket trick to replicate honey in order to consume lava from the Underworld; I don’t plan on reaching Hardmode for such world). I was taking blocks from the second world (the world to be voidformed) and “smuggling” them into the first world (the world to be terraformed) in order to compensate for the need for additional blocks (e.g. sand, ice, mud, etc) when biomes were generated below ocean level.

Turns out that I was doing this not exactly for fun and enjoyment, but something to “try to keep myself busy and away from bad thoughts”, and that was not really a good goal for myself. By now, it has been weeks since I last played.

The brain is like a muscle. it needs to be exercised, otherwise it would become weakened. The more you exercise it, the more it’ll be stronger, and the more your thoughts will become clearer. Numbers are especially hard to the brain, because brains aren’t naturally designed for numbers, so math is like a gym weight for the brain.

The opposite can be asked: how memory wouldn’t improve one’s life? I can’t see how it wouldn’t. The lack of memory skills would surely be problematic, especially when the modern life requires dealing with lots of information. Sure, we can delegate these oceans of information to our little bright rectangular stones which we often carry around with us like they were extension members of our bodies, but we’d be delegating our intelligence to things that can’t be intelligent at all (smartphones, which lack the "smart"ness of human brain). To be intelligent is to intellego, to understand, to comprehend. Only living beings can comprehend things. However, in order to comprehend, the brain needs to be used for constant comprehension, the brain needs to be developed through neuroplasticity, which is why improving one’s memory is important.

The problem with non-rechargeable batteries is how they can easily become e-waste. Yes, there are recycling programs, but I once heard rumors about fake recycling programs that simply dispatches the e-waste to landfills across poor countries, polluting their soils. Rechargeable batteries will eventually become e-waste, too, but it seems to take longer than non-rechargeable batteries… of course it depends on how frequently they are charged and discharged. I have rechargeable batteries (which I use in my wireless keyboard/mouse set, digital hygrometer and a Bluetooth joystick) that have been lasting for years, I even don’t remember when I bought them. It’s worth mentioning that the battery brand I use is known by their poor quality (Multilaser, a Brazilian company that sells white-label electronics under their brand), and yet they’ve been holding charge.

There are battery chargers that allow charging an odd number of batteries, even single batteries. I have a charger that is powered through USB, similar to the following:

Yeah, indeed it is. And to make things worse, our brains aren’t really native to numbers, our brains are native to meanings and emotional correlations and names. We get to memorize a song or a smell better than we get to memorize the 10 first digits of pi.

I sometimes tinker with math, programming (this one used to be my professional field), ciphers and steganography (scientific, logical approach towards the alphabetical positioning), as well as Gematria and numerology (non-scientific, esoteric/spiritual approach towards the alphabetical positioning). This allowed me to memorize the numerical position for some letters (for example, L=12, H=8, T=20, W=23). I got these letters specifically memorized due to emotional/spiritual/meaningful correlations (e.g. Lilith’s name can be represented by the sequence 12 09 12 09 20 08).

When some of the letters are memorized, the other letters become a matter of counting from the nearest letter, until they’re also memorized. Then, the reverse conversion (numbers to letters) become a bit easier to do (if I managed to memorize that T is 20, with enough repetition, I get to memorize that 20 is T).

I also memorized that 97 is the ASCII code for lowercase a, while 65 is the uppercase A, so this also allows the conversion between a text and its numerical ASCII representation, although it involves a lot more of math than simply converting numbers to letters within the alphabet or vice-versa.

Memorizing long sequences of numbers and conveying mnemonics for them (e.g. 512 becomes EAB, 3.1415… becomes C.ADAE…). Technology allowed humans to forgot how to memorize, for example, phone numbers. This is not good for long-term memory.

Imagine the jump scare as they decided to look behind themselves… Why? Because the monsters come not from behind that door, the monsters come from behind that people. In reality, a similar scenario happened a long time ago, at the beginning of the cosmos:

Before being transparent, “light” would not travel further. The era of recombination, which happened when the cosmos was “merely” 380,000 years old, allowed “light” to travel further. This “light” was also radio wave and microwave, and it was part of the white noise back when people still used analog receptor devices, such as radio receptors and analog TV sets. One could still hear it through analog ham radio transceivers and receptors that are still used today, such as Baofeng UV-5R and RTL-SDR dongles connected to a PC.

In your scenario, EM at the radio range wouldn’t propagate, while the rest of the EM frequencies would propagate just fine.

Well, many of the technologies we use in a daily basis are microwave radiation. Access point routers (Wi-fi) operates in the “microwave” portion (2.4GHz and 5GHz), same for Bluetooth. Same for mobile network, which now broadly operates as 4G and 5G. Same for US GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and other geolocating satellital services.

People nowadays use internet to do things. Television and radio became embedded within internet streaming. Governments nowadays use internet to do things. Banks use internet to do things. Commerce use internet to do things. So, they’d be mostly unaffected at the beginning of such phenomenon.

What’d be affected on common people’s lives:

• Some types of NFC, so contactless payment would stop working. Non-wireless payments would still work.
• Media broadcasting outside cable and internet. Both FM radio station signals and Digital TV station signals would simply vanish.
• Remotely locking and unlocking cars will become impossible because car alarm sets mostly operates within 433MHz, which is the “radio” part. Cars will probably be “unlockable” physically by turning keys on their door locks, but they will be noisy as they’d be triggered by the lack of signaled unlocking. Everyone’s cars would go weeeweeeweeweeeweeeweeweeee… in unison as their owners/drivers resorted to their keys to open the doors. Infuriating for everyone, but not something that would “stop” altogether (except, maybe, for some kinds of alarms that wouldn’t allow car ignition to function without proper unlocking, but this is more of an indirect consequence rather than a direct consequence of your “sudden radio wave blackout”).

It’s beyond common people that things would be more affected:

• Airplanes would stop communicating with TWR and some of their instruments would stop as well. Their comms happen between 108-137 MHz, which falls into the radio portion. They won’t “fall from the skies”, but accidents would start to happen as the coordination between flights would become impossible and they would need to resort to visual.
• Radars of all kinds.
• Some trains communicate with the railway control using the radio portion. No more switching rails for trains. Possible train wrecking.
• Radio telescopes all around the world (and those in orbit as well) would stop. No more observing the cosmos through radio waves.
• Some of the satellite communications that happen below the microwave range.
• Weather satellites, it would become impossible for them to do their climate-related operations. Weather forecast would become harder to do without this source of info.

It’s a multifaceted and complex thing to try and imagine everything that would stop working. Modern society has lots of complex technologies, so I probably forgot something above.

Some alternative , nerdy interpretations follow:

• sh: it just works. You don’t need bash, zsh, fish, tcsh or anything else, just running sh will provide a shell environment.
• sh: IT just works. Similar to the previous interpretation, but also stating that IT (Information Technology, which is meant to mean the IT department) just works with sh.

It resonates a lot with my ongoing feelings. I couldn’t agree more with the majority of your statements.

Initially when I opened your thread among a bunch of other Lemmy tabs (because threads usually vanish whenever I refresh the feed, so I open every thread which called my attention as background tabs so I can access them later), I did read “going rogue” as something as “going away from society”, “leaving from society”. Then I read your thread and realized what you meant by “going rogue”.

Let me first digress on my initial idea: that of leaving society.

You see, back in the past, humans used to be hominids living among the woods, gathering and hunting for survival. Then, there was this groundbreaking discovery: the fire, either through a lightning strike which was witnessed by a hominid, or through a naive rubbing of stones above dry leaves. It was both a gift and a curse to the human kind.

Fire was a slippery slope, and what followed was just downhill. Fire allowed the hominids to look “fearsome” to other species. Fire allowed the hominids to roast their food and to boil water, which allowed cooked meal, which allowed their brains to better develop, which brought another curse: the damn sentience, the capability of better, deeper conceptualization and understanding of surrounding phenomena.

Humans couldn’t be “free” anymore. We became chained, they became captivated by their own minds. Humans became dangerous to themselves and to those who surrounded them. There’s this shadowy dark side of the cosmos within life (the chao ab ordo), it was awakened by the bright light of these flames, just like “the opposites attract each other”. Humans became their own enemies, not just due to a the prey-predator dynamics from the Nature, but the vacuum of predators being abhorred and filled by ourselves.

My comment is already long, for I shall interrupt my retrospective here and return to the present time. Humans aren’t even allowed to leave the cities and live among the woods again, gathering and hunting, we aren’t allowed to do that anymore! I mean, yeah, there are the indigenous people, but the modern society came to them and assimilated them with those “modernities” just like Agent Smith assimilating the whole Matrix. Indigenous people were colonized and forced to become part of society, just like anyone of us were forced as soon as we were born (I mean, we weren’t even aware of this thing, we were babies!!). We were unplugged from the raw Nature, we became artificialized, we became enslaved by both the society and by ourselves, by our pleasures, by our illusory will.

There’s no solution… I guess. No human ideology, no technology, no Jesus Christ, no alien, no Batman, no Joker, no Superman, no one will save us from ourselves. The dark side is an inherent human thing, one could blame the hominid Prometheus, but it’s actually just the chaos returning from the illusory order which emerged from the primordial chaos. It was always there since the beginning, within us. Let’s say hello to the Darkness, our old friend and enemy!

It all boils down to how such games (and softwares, in general) depend on dependencies. Imagine two teachers, both of which lectures to several students. One of these teachers are a mathematician, and the other teacher is an engineer. The first depends on math books, the latter depends on engineering books. Sure, there are mathematical aspects to engineering, as there are engineering aspects to math sometimes, but a math teacher can’t use engineering books to lecture, while the engineering teacher can’t use math books to lecture. They need their own set of books, even though these sets can overlap sometimes.

That’s a similar situation to Windows and Linux softwares: one depends on Windows set of books, while the other depends on the Linux set of books. You can’t just “import” the Windows books into the Linux classroom, because the classroom will also change: back to the analogy, the engineering classroom has engineering instruments and equipment, while the math classroom has scientific calculators and computers running R and Wolfram Mathematica.

Nowadays, there are some efforts to try and bring back the old gold web:

• Neocities: it tries to mimick geocities, so people can host HTML+JS+CSS sites that are meant to be static
• Geminispace capsule hosting services: similar, but without CSS and JS, it goes even further on trying to return the grand old web from Mosaic browser era, as it’s highly content-focused.

I was curious and I tried to find your poetry within your Lemmy profile history. I saw some posts with drawings (for example, the rabbits trying to rescue the rabbit from the magician, the horse chess piece instructing a tower piece on how to arrive somewhere, and so on). They’re really nice and smart.

As for where to publish, I’ll tell what I perceive as I’m someone who sometimes write, too (although I probably differ on genre and styles). I ditched all the mainstream social platforms, so the “biggest” social platforms I’m currently participating are Mastodon and Lemmy (and as from yesterday, I’ve been navigating in Geminispace, but I guess it’s not as big as fediverse, yet).

Interestingly, Lemmy is the platform I get to interact the most, even when Mastodon has way more users. It seems, to me, that Lemmy is more socially active than Mastodon.

But there’s a catch: Lemmy often focuses on what we’re doing right now, discussing things, exchanging ideas and informations. While there are a few communities focused on sharing art, they don’t seem to have the same activity and visibility as, let’s say, Ask Lemmy, Shower thoughts, News, Technology and similar communities.

I saw people recommending Writefreely and Plume. I created accounts on those platforms and tried to publish some texts over there, but I had no relevant interaction whatsoever. They have even fewer users than Mastodon and Lemmy, however, they’re more appropriate for publishing poetry, because they have UIs better made for them.

Perhaps the visibility also depends on the genre and style. I write about eerie, existential and dark things, so I guess it’s not something that’s expected to have much of a reception. People often seek “good vibing” content, especially “funny” content (that’s why memes perform the best). It’s a factor for you to consider asking yourself: “How many people would resonate with my texts?”

That said, I guess you don’t really need social media accounts, you need a public that will resonate with your works and will read them and interact with them. This public can be from fediverse depending on your genres and themes. Publishing the text across different platforms can improve their visibility. Maybe we, as Lemmy users and writers/artists (although I consider myself neither a “writer” nor an “artist”), should seek to post more on Lemmy communities focused on art sharing in order to balance the main Lemmy feed.
