I can’t tell if this meme is unironically tankie, or satirizing them…

compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is the US losing its competitive advantage in energy?101·3 days agoMass electrification of end uses, with nuclear for clean firm baseload, and wind and solar plus storage for peaks, is the future of energy. The longer the US is unwilling to let go of fossil fuels, the further behind it will be. China already has enough of an advantage that it has secured its position as the global leader of energy technology for at least the next century.

compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats an alternative to Spotify Jam you use to listen to music with people online?5·7 days agoI just switched from Spotify to TIDAL, and it appears to have a Live session feature. I haven’t tried it yet tho
I think you nailed it with the Firefly quote. I’ve always loved that one.
Even if our movements don’t succeed, I want to be able to say that I did my part and didn’t go down without a fight.
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Autism@lemmy.world•Anyone other nice high school stories to share?5·10 days agoSometimes! At my high school, it was a thing for your friends to decorate your locker for your birthday as a surprise. One year my friends covered my locker in Christmas wrapping paper with a giant drawing of a dog on it, because our running gag at the time was that my hairstyle made me look like a spaniel
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I got a VPO against me, how fucked am I?1·10 days agoIs the protective order to protect you from someone, or is it meant to protect someone from you (unjustly, it would seem you’re saying)?
And I understand it’s frustrating to feel like people aren’t giving you the help you’re looking for. But I think the folks saying “I am not a lawyer, and you need a lawyer” are just trying to be responsible, because especially when it comes the law, being or having a relevant expert is important.

Which med is that?
Everyone’s risk tolerance is different, but a 99.96% chance that I would not experience irreversible side effects feels like pretty good odds

compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto ADHD memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Can anyone confirm?English9·23 days agoYUP. The moment that someone first told me that I interrupt all the time is seared into my brain. Ever since, I’ve made an active effort to stop myself. Especially without meds, it’s hard.
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is kindness often viewed as a sign of naïveté?3·23 days agoKnowing when to set boundaries and sticking to them is not one of my strong suits, admittedly. But it’s something I’m working on.
How do you know when to set a boundary? How do you enforce it without feeling like an asshole?
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is kindness often viewed as a sign of naïveté?42·23 days agoIt’s funny, but I feel like I strive to be kind because I’m aware of how the world really works. Like, I’ve been let down by reality and know the world can be a nightmare already, so why would I want to pile even more on someone and make their life harder, you know?
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is kindness often viewed as a sign of naïveté?3·23 days agoI’m a fan of the line from Ted Lasso: be curious, not judgmental. I try approach things from the perspective of “how can we solve this problem”, since I don’t see any good in finger pointing. You can’t change the past.
I’ll admit, I am a people pleaser at times, but it’s something I’ve worked on - identifying the line when I start to be too much of a pushover.

I actually was very into Buddhism a few years ago. I had a better meditation practice then, and I did a lot of reading, some on metta, but moreso insight. I don’t think I’d consider myself a Buddhist, but they have a lot of good ideas!
compostgoblin@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anybody else understand they need to make deep connections with people but their social battery has been dead for a while and can't put up with people's BS?11·2 months agoYes, I feel that way sometimes. But I try to keep in mind that humans are innately social creatures, and I shouldn’t shut myself off like that. It helps to have pre-planned events with people I know I like, like playing a TTRPG or board game, or volunteering.
I’ll plug the podcast Live Like The World Is Dying.
From their website: “How do we live in a world that might be ending? By preparing to survive that end and by working to prevent it. Live Like the World is Dying features interviews with people who think about how to prepare for and survive crises.”
