Gabe has said multiple times he would never sell Valve to Microshaft.
Every time I see these “rumors” I can’t help but think that they are a malicious tactic by Microshaft to try and influence their more longshot buyout offers-- Microshaft really really wants Valve, this has been known for at least a decade. And some overzealous young execs are foolishly ready to try and pressure Valve with these bullshit tactics, completely unaware of what dangerous game they are playing legally.
I have no doubt in my mind Valve will never be sold to Microshaft or come anywhere close to it so long as Gabe or his confidants are at the helm. They are ex-Microsoft employees. They built Windows 3.0. They know it’s inner workings and failings very intimately and they only begrudgingly tolerate Windows because it’s the dominant market share. That’s the whole reason SteamOS and Steam Deck exist, to chip away at Microsoft’s attempts to monopolize PC gaming. And that’s exactly why Microsoft is hoarding IP and restricting their most prestigious titles, like Halo, to Windows through anticheat.
Whoever is starting these rumors are either pathetically stupid and attention hungry or are spreading misinformation in a hail mary at the behest of Microshaft.
It’s almost as if the quality of video games has been in decline for years and is now reaching a point where consumers have more faith in what they already have than anything else the market has yet to muster.
Imho most of the good/decent newer titles are so big that they are daunting, while the shitty ones are equally big or bigger and marketed similarly. So of course prospective players are more likely to choose the small indie title that they are confident they will enjoy, even if they finish it in less than 50 hours or just 8 or even 2.
Studios and publishers are on a path to ruin rn and unless they ditch companies like Sweet Baby Inc and start getting consulting from firms that actually understand the gamer demographic and how good games are made, they’ll all be doomed.
But who TF cares at this point, there are so many games to go through nowadays that as long as you have a nice little hoarde then you will become bored of video games altogether long before you want to buy some shitty new title out of desperate hope.
Pro tip to all the unfairly ridiculed titty streamers out there doing God’s work (as if any of you were actually on Lemmy):
You could probably skirt this by hiding your face. Then you have plausible deniability as they can’t prove concretely whether it’s you showing skin or topical abstract art expression.
As an added bonus, the content value also stands to potentially go up as viewer’s would no longer be driven away by your over-attended attention seeking mug. That’s what you do this for, right, to make content for your community?
Not to be confused with the fallacy that these essentials are exclusively the product of exchanging money-- while you can pay for better health and better safety, there are also things you can do with little to no money to improve those for yourself, though the freedom to do so unfortunately is not default and financial security does empower an individual to better use what resources are available to them-- maybe not everyone can trivially access hiking trails, or be in the health for it, and even then they should have a good pair of shoes, a water bottle, and reliable mode of transportation to/fro the trails, which again not everyone has unfortunately.
Imo, the idealistic answer is to work to ensure everyone an essential baseline level that can reliably empower them to live as healthy and opportune of lives as is reasonably possible, while of course having in place infrastructure and accomodations to those less fortunate in health and/or opportunity. I’d like to think this is more than a utopian idea, and closer to a reality than one might originally think, or perhaps I was somewhat unique or grossly digressed from the status quo in pessimistically believing that we might be far from this being a reality. Perhaps my pessimism was also influenced by my financial stress at the time, among the other throes of life.

Don’t know enough to give a testimony on it. Majority or codebase is FOSS afaik. Sorta passed the sniff test? Free API is nice and works well, that’s enough for my purposes.
I mean why even when Stract is a thing
I’m not a lawyer, but under the definition of “Infrastructure” on page 5, they state that they will construe WhatsApp Infrastructure and Partner Infrastructure accordingly, which to my untrained eye is prima facie evidence to their acknowledgement that these are separate systems, at least one (the Partner’s) of which is not under their custodianship and not named as subject of the first stipulation you quoted. In other words “do not make it so WhatsApp’s own infrastructure would run GPL material” and potentially “do not send GPL material through our systems”
The second one I interpret to mean “nothing with licenses that apply that runtime operation is copy left”
Second game: Factorio, with mods enabled.
At first I read this as “these species can fuck each other”. Then I realized that this is only concerning conception, all these species could fuck each other as they please.
I created a GitLab account long before they implemented this, but never used it. Went to post an issue related to self-hosted GitLab on their issue tracker, and it told me my account was banned. I wrote an email to support and they essentially said “an automated system identified your account as a bot and banned you during an account clean up some years ago to cut back on malicious users”. I informed them that this was not at all reasonable, as I’ve never even posted anything on any GitLab account, and that I would be advising my organization to never pay for any GitLab product or service unless legal writes up the contract terms, because I have no faith in them as a vendor.
Seriously, fuck GitLab. And if anyone from that org wants to discuss this with me, they can pipe their email to /dev/null
If someone wants a tiny home, that’s their problem, not yours or mine.
before y’all try to “own” me or “ratio” me for not confirming to the hive mind, please kindly reread my comment and explain exactly what you think my motive was in writing this before replying. Anyone who fails to do that, whatever they could type holds no value in my tired eyes.
cishet white men: exist
some marginalized groups: “THEY ARE TRYING TO OPPRESS US, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HATES US AND IS PART OF THE SATAN WORSHIPPING WHITE CISHET PATRIARCHY AGENDA, THEY TOO COWARDLY TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES AND LET SOME OLD WHITE GUYS TELL THEM WHAT TO DO”
cishet white men: “fuck taxes, man. Btw when you figure we gonna get a sensible politician? Same shit we saw our parents wondered every four years when we were kids, amirite?”
Despite being a paying customer, my biggest gripe with them is their lack of concern for freedom of speech. They decided they can “de-platform” sites that they are not aligned with, which is shitty when A) they’ve basically cornered the SMB CDN/DDoS-protection space B) they are fine with these sites in their customer base until a pressure campaign they don’t feel like battling surfaces.
This is referring to the KiwiFarms vs Keffles situation, where Keffles made false claims to Cloudflare about KiwiFarms endorsing/promoting suicide in an attempt to prevent her leaked discord convos from spreading. Cloudflare caved without question and suspended KiwiFarms’ account without warning.
Otherwise, I have personally never had an issue with Cloudflare. But I am still going to look for alternatives because I don’t think it’s cool for companies with that kind of responsibility to bend a knee to bad actors out of fucking convenience.
Just give em Fedora. Seems to get people good mileage from newb to netadmin
Poor man didn’t have the manpower to checks notes censor reviews about their steaming pile of shit
You couldn’t at least profile the RAM and CPU usage?
I’ve never met any Minecraft player that played Story Mode, but a few had primary school siblings that did.
