Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a good substitute for tomato?
4·7 days agoIf you only don’t like the gooey and seedy texture, try dry tomatoes in oil: they get rid of the seeds, of all the liquid part, and become a little harder, but they are stronger in taste.
Can’t really advise you on what to do, but here’s some conaiderations:
• I still use a 4th gen i7 with 16 GB ddr3 and a gtx970, still going fine in its 10th year. Just recently upgraded to a gtx1060 I found around • 10 years old techbology isn’t really any diffetent than today, only slower, but luckily architectural incompatibility is becoming less and less of a problem (except when it’s forced upon for no particular reason, see win11) • gpu especially are extremely backward and forward compatible, if you only need more VRAM, you can use a modern gpu with a very old mobo and cpu and chances are you’ll be as good, and even if you need to upgradr them later because you are cpu-bottleneck, you can still keep the gpu. I’m guessing in 90% of cases, pci lane speed is relatively unimportant wether it’s gen3 or gen5.
Basically, upgradr when you feel you are limited in what you can do, ignore the pressure caused by the generations passing by, as time goes on, I predict we’ll need less and less hardware upgrade until a nee revolutionary technology comes about that changes everything.

1·13 days agoDidn’t know about that formula. Is it used behind the scene but never mentioned, or just used retroactively to explain the difference between the different series?

1·14 days agoIn Voyager and TNG it has been established that warp 10 is infinite velocity, that means the warp scale is not linear (the differencr between warp 9 and 8 must be higher than the difference between 8 and 7). After all, Voyager’s max speed of 9.975 is faster than Enterprise D’s 9.6.
Then again, warp speed has always been quite inconsistent, so who knows which scale they are using…
Not a good choice for a name, at first I though it was just another linux phone that would be useless for 90% of people.
Very cool project instead, hope this can lead the fondation for a 100% open source mobile OS.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to distinguish between human-created content and AI-generated content?
32·16 days agoYour country is going to elections and a leaked video of one of the candidates happears on social media that shows them raping a child or whatever einous stuff.
Would you like to know if that’s a real video or a foreign country is trying to manipulate your elections to favour an emerging pseudo dictator that will sell your people to someone else? I would like to.
We are not talking about ai memes or trolls, virtually everybody get news and is influenced by stuff found on the internet. Knowing what is real and what isn’t is fundamental to your functioning as a person.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Most technologies continue to improve with innovation, like WiFi. What is a technology that was nearly perfect upon conception?
313·17 days agoMaybe not perfect upon conception, but after a couple of decades from common adoption, the bicycle really didn’t change much. Sure, you can use lighter and more advanced materials, you can add an electric motor to it (though I wouldn’t classify it as a bycicle) but you can probably take a 100 years old bike and it would work just as good as a modern one.
Relaxed? What is the meaning of this word? My emotion is a booleam variable that is either depressed or agitated, nothing in between

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•what's a good answer to placate the c-suite if you're accused of lacking motivation and being unfriendly?
6·26 days agoNot all positions require outstanding motivation. If you are a project manager, sure a motivated one will probably outperform someone there just for the money that doesn’t give a shit. A technician on an assembly line? It doesn’t matter, you are there to operate a machine and motivation will not make you (sustantially) more productive, incentives on the other hand will (benefits, salary, less stressful working condition…)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's a good answer to placate the c-suite if you're accused of lacking motivation and being unfriendly?
28·26 days agoDon’t answer the question, ask them for specific examples on why they think you are being unmotovated or unfriendly, don’t be aggressive, just pretend you simply don’t understand. They’ll tell you some bullshit and you can tell it’s a misunderstanding. Keep a polite and friendly tone.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Medical professionals - Is there any benefit to a parasite cleanse?
1·1 month ago-
in richer countries sanitary conditions of food and water means there’s less risk of parasitic infection
-
if there’s no symptom, you probablu don’t have a parasitic infection. Remember that billions of bacteria and other microorganisms live in your body in a symbiotic relationship, that’s totally normal and without the you would die
-
For the love of God, please don’t take any medicine without your doctor telling you to do so. Esoecially any “purification”, " cleansing" or “detox” substance some randos on the internet tell you it’s good for you. Those are people with no medicanl knowledge at best or scammers at worst

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Producers Promise Season 4 Will Be BetterEnglish
6·1 month agoYou are right, with 20+ episodes it’s easier to have a common theme while still being episodic enough to have episodes that don’t advance the plot but are either funny or explore some unrelated theme. 10 episodes season work for a serialized series (like discovery), but an episodic 10 episodes series is a hybrid of the two and more difficult to pull throught.
However, I still think they did a good job, the season was fun and enjoyable, and I don’t really care there’s no “big picture plot”. After all, this is not telling the voyage of a ship lost in the galaxy or a multi-year war with a foreign dominion, it’s a character build-up story that will eventually become the original series, it’s a prequel and doesn’t try to be anything else. Surely I enjoyed it more than galaxy-destroying-threat-of-the-year discovery.
Also, even if some more “experimental” episodes may be a little failed, I can surely appreciate the attempt and, even if more boring or over the top, at least they are memorable, si they have value.

Man, you know why you’re getting downvoted so much? Your comments fall of as EXTREMELY egocentric.
On the internet, you are not special, just one of the many billions of usernames around. It’s not that right wingers are imitating you, the problem is that so often someone will make a post like yours saying “I get banned so often, this place is impossible”, and when people ask what they did to get banned, they’ll receive some vague bullshit answers like “for saying the truth” or “for any word I speak”, then you see their history and they say the most hateful, racist or mysoginist thing you can think of and they’ll act as the most persecuted of victims. It appears you are doing the same, even if that’s not your intention.
You are on the internet man, if people don’t do that, spam happens and instances get flooded with bots trolling everything until they shut down. If you don’t want to “be approved” you won’t have an account anywhere. Deal with it.
I’m not trying to insult you, just trying to help you, because it looks like you are slightly oblivious to how you present yourself.
