  • The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.

    Brandolini’s law

Put simply, I or anybody else can generate a bunch of fake images, give them a titles e.g “Pyramids were launchpads for aliens” and it takes way longer for you to disprove it than for me to create more disinformation. I could be posting another picture about “the first human skull was found in Australia 10,000 years ago” while you’re debating whether pyramids really are launchpads for alien spaceships. This entire discussion could’ve been avoid by @PugJesus@lemmy.world adding a source to the image from the onset. Then all I’d have to do is click on it and verify that the webpage is trustworthy.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

I could say “@PugJesus@lemmy.world asserted that this image is true, but provided no evidence, therefore I can dismiss it”.

I would encourage you to look up the difficulties of debunking myths and why misinformation is so pervasive online. We shouldn’t be normalising unsourced claims, otherwise we will have more people sharing images and texts without thinking just because they can get reactions.

The name of the community is “History Porn”. It does sound memey, but that doesn’t mean we should put users at risk of believing or sharing false information.

  • LMAO, that person is delusional and has no idea what human trafficking is.

Human trafficking is the act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring, or receiving individuals through force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of exploitation.

Sure, it was possibly dangerous, but human trafficking it was not. Although, if they forced you to eat a salade nicoise, that’s torture and should’ve been reported.
