If you’re talking about the engineering quote, I actually have the engineers from command and conquer red alert in my head.
However…….commandos is an awesome series as well!!!

HADOUKEN!
Guten Tag! (Chain guns firing)
WaHOO!
Engineering! Aaaaahfirmative!
Good. I’m willing to bet the product people wanted it be like this but got push back from higher ups. The community response helped to temper the higher ups and level set impact.
I enjoy dndbeyond and it works for me, but if they want to make these decisions and tell me to fuck off then I will. However, if they want to make these decisions and actually get input from the community to keep people happy then great!
Weird. It’s worked incredibly fine for me in app or desktop. I play and DM.
No one knows the new crafting rules yet unless they were released in UA somewhere. I think they were just teasing them.
From my understanding, the rules will be same or similar for some things and revised from play testing for others. This is the culmination of that work and everything else they’ve been working on.
I already paid for a coverage plan that lasts a month. It’s a capped high speed data amount and unlimited texts, over 200 minutes of talk time, so I should be plenty covered over there.
Thank you! I thought it might work that way, but then second guessed myself because it seemed too easy/convenient. Glad that is the case though.
Have a good remainder of your week!
Thank you. So I just need to turn on the data roaming and I should be golden then?
The player obviously is stubborn and won’t apply what you’ve told them.
Kill their character. Their wizard with high intelligence wants to melee? The monsters are smart and they see the robe guy who gets stabbed easily - so that’s what they do. All. Of. Them.
Kill, kill, kill. Then have a chat with them after about why this happened. Let them know they know how to play the game but actions have consequences and the monsters are smart. You’ve let them have their learning curve and now there are stakes.
Can confirm - have 2
Really? Anything above Nintendo it has been true for me.
If you plan to DM:
For immersiveness, I recommend miniatures to use on a grid (can be just paper with 1”x1” squares drawn with a pencil). One thing I can say for doing it cheap and quick is to buy a bunch of those small game piece holders (1”x1”) and find monster art online to print, cut, and put in the holders as your minis.

You can get basic rules online for free and you could probably pick up books used.
Of course I read the article. It specifically says, “… value of the expected entertainment usage, which is to say the per hour value times the number of expected hours plus the terminal value that’s perceived by the customer in ownership, if the title is owned rather than rented or subscribed to…”
I’m beginning to wonder if you read the article. They want to charge off of one value and add it to an initial base value. If you think this idea has nothing to do with increasing profits then I have a bridge in the Sahara to sell you.
Yeah, and I bet they’re affordable. What Strauss is proposing is a massive increase in initial purchase price for those that aren’t paying subscriptions. $70 is borderline affordable for a lot of people as is and that will now be a higher entry price. I’m not in that boat, personally, but I can see how it would be detrimental to the gaming industry as a whole.
Then again, there is the flip side where people are now forced to choose the games they can afford that year even more carefully (1-2 vs 6-7 or more as an example) and if a game fails expectations and someone misses out on something else, then maybe it’ll start putting some shitty developers out of business.
Cool, so could the makers of the software they use to make these games do the same to them? They should pay them all for the per hour value times the expected hours of development plus the terminal value perceived by expected income from sales! Yes, good business model. Maximize them profits!!!
Interesting. I wonder how they’d feel if the hardware and software they all used to make these games were charged the same way? Or how about the cars/public transit and roads they take to get to work?
Good idea Strauss.
Playing in my 4e group, it’s all pen and paper and minis on a battle map that is drawn on.
I DM 5th and I use a battle map and minis, some printed mats, and a large books of battle mats (made by Loke). I also use dndbeyond to look up monster stats or quickly search rules and I play music via a Bluetooth lightbulb above our gaming table using Spotify. Finally, I use a laptop with google sheets for tracking initiative (and I kind of keep track of player HPs, AC, and spell saves) and google docs for outlining campaigns and taking notes.
My players for 5th use dndbeyond and can create characters using my resources I share and they are added to my campaign there so I can quickly review their stats/spells, etc as needed. Other players do it all pen and paper.
I read about the heat issues and thought it was baloney until my phone randomly started to heat up big time the other day while just browsing the web to read articles and use Voyager (my lemmy app). I ended up locking the screen and putting it down to cool down. It hasn’t happened since, but I do hope they figure it out because that was crazy weird!
Oh, totally. I’m a child of the 80s and remember them fondly. I just thought it would be a funny comment.
Man, some of those ads were the epitome of sex sells!
Oh. Good to know! I was thinking the original Wolfenstein 3D.
