They don’t, they make furniture. You clearly don’t understand metaphors.

When they go out of business you can’t download even if you do or don’t have a license.

If Ikea goes out of business, you can’t buy their products anymore and the ones you do have you need to protect and make sure they don’t degrade. Your argument is true for every single product, digital or physical.

The games from GOG don’t have any DRM so you can very easily make copies of the game and safely store them elsewhere, even on new computers.

Games that do have DRM lock you down to verify that you’re allowed to play their game, which severely limits how you can use your own product. If that game publisher or developer goes out if business than you can’t play the game that you already have, even if it’s kept “pristine”.

People who bought The Sims 4 couldn’t play their offline game because the DRM stopped them, meanwhile people didn’t buy the game were free to play it when they wanted. The legitimate buyers of the game were punished simply because of DRM.

That’s true for pretty much every product you buy.

The difference is that Ikea isn’t going to take your shelf when they feel like it or if they run out of money. Neither is GOG. That’s why it matters.

I finally looked deeper into this. If you follow the steps for account deletion, there’s a button at step 3 to request a download link to your content.

I get an email about once or twice a month telling me to recover my photos before their gone. This has been going on for the last year.

I’d like to message them to request access to my own data, I just haven’t gotten around to ir. I think they’ve been giving out a free trial for those that ask.

Family Sharing enables you to play games from other family members’ libraries, even if they are online playing another game.

This is a great improvement to this feature. It’s refreshing when these type of convenience features are considered and implemented.

I got a ticket for a remote site that said “there’s an error message and the computer doesn’t start” . there was no clarification what the error message actually said.

I spent about 20 minutes driving out there, turn the computer on:

“System battery voltage low. Press F2 to continue”

I did not have a battery with me. If they just said what the error was, I would have brought a battery with me. Now they have to wait for another tech to be scheduled to drive out to this location which could be a week later.

They mean the trash compactor from the first movie, Ep. 4, after they escape with the princess.

In the open source world, I take that as a highlight, not a warning.
