Sorry but 20 years of “but this isn’t exactly like Winders11!!!one!” starts to grate on me. It’s a different OS with a different philosophy and a different workflow. Everbody coming from Windows had to learn to deal with the nuances of that OS as well, nuances they’ve completely forgotten about because it’s second nature.

I don’t WANT Linux to be exactly like MacOS and Windows. I want it to stand on its own, with its own ideas on how to run a computer.

I’m actually using it because it’s easier. I do hobby programming, and I like having every utility I would ever need related to that just one command away. Need a hex editor? It’s in the repository. Need a calculator that can convert binary to decimal? Also in the repository. IDEs/plugins/compilers? Repository.

Is this the equivalent of a PC maker in 2024 going “yeah, I don’t think we are going to put a floppy drive in anymore…”?

We’ve been making them for many years and have gotten very good at it.

This can’t be overstated enough. Modern mechanical hard drives are a hundred times more impressive than Swiss watches.

Unpopular opinion: I think “Hurt” itself is overrated, and everyone just likes it because it happened to become one of the hit songs off the Downward Spiral. I think songs like Mr. Self Destruct and Eraser are what you really want if you want a display of raw, fucked up emotions.

Did you have somebody overwhelming you with the minutiae of research and “things you have to understand” when you got into PC building?

I just kinda started plugging shit in where it fit. This was in the days of the ISA bus and mobo DIP switches. All my technical knowledge was learned through breaking something and trying to fix it.

This argument was settled with electronic music in the 80s/90s. Samples and remixes taken directly from other bits of music to create a new piece aren’t plagiarism.

Seems to work just fine on my 2022 Gigabyte brand mobo with a 12-core AM5 socket Ryzen and Nvidia 3070ti GPU. Maybe it has trouble on things like laptops, which often have weird shit put in by their manufacturers? Or are you defining “very new” as “just released this month”?
