By doing absolutely bare minimum for the actual job and spending the rest of the time on my own interests and hobies in the workshop that might og might not benefit the projects. I’m the only one capable of the highly specialized and technical challenges in our project so they can’t and won’t fire me, but I’m probably leaving soon anyway because I’m not paid enough to do anything more than bare minimum at the moment. Also drugs help. Helps a lot to not get anxiety about it.
Is it filler or is it just the truth?
I truly see it as my biggest strength that my ADHD can make me do a weeks worth of tasks in a single day when needed, or the fact that i can hear the 3D printer crashing from acros the room, or catch the tiniest imperceptible changes to the sound and rhythm of a machine I’m working on because my focus is on everything all at once. It can take my colleagues days to figure something out that I catch immediately.
Yes it doesn’t really work for cooking or tasks where you need to be precise, but then snoozing wouldn’t work anyway since 10 min would be too long for most occasions. However you can use your assistant on your phone to set precise alarms. Just say “Hey Google/Siri set an alarm for 12 minuts for the pizza” and it should set an alarm instead of a timer.
I just have a few generic alarms on my phone i keep changing for whenever i need them. They dont repeat weekly on Android automatically so they are like single use. I also do also have weekly repeating timers for remembering stuff like trash bins or groceries delivery.
Use alarms and snooze them instead giving you 10 min until it rimgs again. Repeat until task is done
I’ve learned the hard way (multiple times) that if beverage goes into freezer a timer of one hour MUST be set on my phone or smart speaker, because I gaslighted myself into believing it’s illegal to put drinks in the freezer and if someone finds out I’ll be arrested.
Well that’s peak ADHD for you right there. New thing=dopamin. No dopamine any more = abandoned projektets. My best advice is to pick something that you can keep itterating on infinitely and keep interesting. For instance i like making smoothies and its something you can vary for ever and never run out of recipes to try. Basically food is a good hobby because there’s so much to learn from the entire world
For gaming something like Minecraft can be fun because infinitely projects, but maybe harder to stay motivated.
3d printing is also good because there’s something new constantly.
Congratulations on your new brain chemistry. Its such an amazing feeling, and i hope you’ll find out a lot of new things about yourself. For me I feel like I got my sense of self back like I remember myself from 20 years ago. For far too long I feel like I’ve been on autopilot, trapped in a constant fight for my own attention that has been stolen from me. I’ve been medicated for a year now in my late 20’s and I feel so happy.
But remember this, when it inevitably becomes the new norm and you have a difficult day. You still have ADHD. The meds will never remove that. But you now have better tools to fight back what is rightfully yours, namely your attention. Remember to take a break sometimes and just ride the ADHD for a day or two when the meds are not working as they should for whatever reason. It’ll bounce back and you will find out you are so much stronger that you used to be over all.

Awesome idea. There is actually one of those time timers at work that noone uses. I’ll steal that for my WFH days. I used to use it at work myself before I was medicated and it helped me a lot but I forgot about it completely because while at work I don’t really need it anymore now I have my meds.

Actually i couldn’t care less about wasting company time, but also wasting my own time I could spend on enjoying stuff I care about makes me sad. The weather was nice today and instead of going outside in the sunshine and walk the dog I just wasted 3 hours watching crap YouTube
This actually does work sometimes but not every time. Especially if I’m tired. As soon as those 10 min is up i immediately shift my fokus away from anything work related. I guess sleep will help, but going to bed in a timely manner is hard when you have low will power.
I’m an automation engineer so this is literally my job. I’ve automated everything I can but since it’s my job it literally never ends.
Alarms actually does work. I use it for taking my meds and it’s working really well. I should maybe use it more for work as well. Thanks
If I do indulge in 15 min distraction i have no stop button and i keep going for multiple hours and its so bad. I can only win of i don’t ever start, but it’s so hard.
