  • That’s a great point about the IRS. Where I’m from we also make a lot of derogatory jokes about our equivalent of the IRS, but it really is a cornerstone of any civilized country. No one likes getting taxed, but everyone complains about how nothing’s getting fixed, and how the government should fund this and that. Without taxes we might as well pack it in, so it makes sense that the ‘local tax collection agency’ should be one of the better funded ones.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is thanks for changing my mind

  • Soo, anyone got any game recommendations? Lemmy already has so few comments and social interaction (the only reason I visit sites like these) so why dilute it even further by focusing on pointless stuff? I swear every time I see a good post and am excited to see what people have to say about it it’s 90 percent pointless arguing in the comments.

Although I suppose I just contributed to it as well, so carry on I guess.

  • Encouraging someone to do something doesn’t mean them not doing it is bad. I can encourage you to try mayo instead of ketchup on your fries, without implying that you’re an asshole for eating your fries with ketchup. Also, I’m pretty sure me saying “maybe you’d like fries with mayo if you tried it” isn’t bullying. I faced a lot of these issues when I was younger, and while I don’t think it works like that for everyone, I genuinely got over a bunch of them by just forcing myself to confront them.

The point stands that people should be less self-centred when it comes to what’s ‘normal’, but some of the examples in the tweet come off as (ironically) quite judgemental.
