Yes. The more you know of another culture, the more you can interface with it and its people.
I guess the real problem would be that people wouldn’t get references. I know any anime that involves historical figures or legends I don’t get a lot of the jokes and references. If a major portion of the entertainment value is from references you can easily alienate foreign audiences. If it’s a new, alien, story it could be pretty cool, though.
I guess it all depends on the incentive structure.
Same sort of argument for more government surveillance. “I have nothing to hide”. Yeah, you have nothing to hide from the government, but what about your crazy ex? Overbearing parent? Because all it takes is one hack and now your information is available to anyone who’ll pay, maybe even for free at some point.

I would argue Nintendo does do a lot of pro-consumer stuff. Like making actually good games. It’s just their anti-consumer stuff is either so bad or just plain weird that we just scratch our heads and think Nintendo is going off the deep end. Still trying to avoid buying much Nintendo going forward.

Supported this game on Kickstarter and it was my first Steam game ever. Couldn’t really get into it after release and then I heard of all the problems the game had in the end.
