  • The only disadvantage of display port that I can think of is that it’s harder to find capture devices (or at least Linux compatible ones) that have display port. Generally no one cares about that stuff though. I use capture cards because I sometimes do stuff involving other computers and it’s 1000 times more convenient to have a vlc window floating around with the display output.

No one seems to have this use case besides me, I’m just glad that there exist capture cards fast enough to do playback in real-time and not a 5 second delay. I don’t stream.

  • I don’t really subscribe to the whole if civilization collaspes there will be no technology in anyone’s lifetime again thing. You aren’t going to go back to ordering shit off amazon from your smartphone or anything. However the knowledge that things like refrigeration, radio transmission, internal combustion engines, water treatment and such are possible is going to drive people to eventually find out how to get it by any means necessary.

How quickly this happens is a question of whether the majority of people adopt a “technology is too dangerous/a sin against God” idealogy or not.

  • Great game. Awesome game. Runs like shit in late game even on modern hardware unless you keep things smaller and boring + the modding situation sucks a lot. Fun enough to still be worth playing. Hopefully someday they’ll make a sequel to address some of these issues or someone else will make a similar game with better performance. Sins 2 is a thing but it’s only on epic and I don’t use Windows. We might get a steam release some day but until then I’m too lazy to pirate it.

  • Unless they put the og bf1 maps into bf2 like that one pc mod does AND also implement splitscreen on the console versions, there will be no point in playing this. A pc version will only be worth playing if it can still load custom maps and only if the multi-player works ok with custom maps like the original which is a hard bar to reach considering even complicated custom maps with lots of hacks work well over lan.

I played the crap out of this as a kid and also as an adult. It’s one of the greatest games ever made. It has to at least be better than the original in every way or it’s blasphemy.

  • If you get just the right gguf model (read the description when you download them to get the right K-optimization or whatever it’s called) and actually use multithreading (llamacpp supports multithreading so in theory gpt4all should too), then it’s reasonably fast. I’ve achieved roughly half the speed of ChatGPT just on an 8 core amd fx with ddr3 ram. Even 20b models can be usably fast.

  • This probably isn’t very helpful but the best way I’ve found to make an ai write an entire book is still a lot of work. You have to make it write it in sections, pay attention to the prompts based on what’s happening and spend a lot of time copy pasting the good sentences into a better quality section and then use those blocks of text to create chapters. You’re basically plagiarizing a document using ai written documents rather than making the ai shit it out in 1 continuous stream.

If you could come up with a way to make an ai produce a document using only complete sentences from other ai generated documents, maybe you could achieve a higher level of automation and still yield similar quality. Because otherwise it’s just as difficult as writing a book yourself.

As for software, use llamacpp. It’s a cpu-only ai thingy that can utilize multiple cores. You probably aren’t getting an nvidia gpu running on any arm board unless you have a really long white neck beard and a degree in computer engineering. Download gguf compatible models for llamacpp on hugging face.

  • People spent lots of effort on Xbox 360 hacking just because microsoft spent so much effort making it as unhackable as possible. Fortunately, console gaming is so much less relevant today that it’s not even worth remembering what the latest consoles are. Sure, there are some shitty AAA titles that lock things down or are so demanding they need a $100k pc but between the few ethical worthwhile ones and the expansive library of actually good indie games on steam, consoles just aren’t worth fucking with anymore.

  • They’re making another one? Fuck. My pc can’t even run the current one. The current one has better than real life graphics, what more do people want? Is Nvidia giving everyone at Microsoft blowjobs or something? Give people time to catch up ffs.

I’m glad I don’t care for flight sims because fsx, the one before the current one, doesn’t run well on modern pcs because of its stupid 4gb ram limit crashes. I’m not playing in fucking 800x600 just to avoid a crash.
