Yeah it’s pretty upsetting I really liked Sync too. If it helps at all I recently switched to Voyager after trying a few apps. They are all pretty good but for me at least switching to Voyager seemed to be the easiest coming from Sync.

Unfortunately it seems like the dev has abandoned his app. I also used Sync for reddit and was happy to pay for the Lemmy version. Money down the drain. At best it seems that there will be updates every 18 to 24 months, maybe if at all. This may have been fine on reddit but Lemmy is constantly being updated and changing. So the app is more often then not broken or missing functionality in some.way. Honest answer is to find another app and donate to another developer.
Okay a lot going on here and not really a lot of information
First thing I would check is does your motherboard have error lights? Even my computer thats 20 years old has lights that flash in patterns as booting. You use this to find out which part of the booting sequence failed, power, ram, video card, CPU etc. Find out which motherboard you have and find the owners manual. If you have SLI available it’s an expensive motherboard and most likely has this feature.
Second, double check everything is plugged into the motherboard, ram all cables etc. Something may have shaken loose?
Might be worth physically inspecting the video card. That you could boot up once makes me think this failed. Maybe a capacitor on the video cap exploded or got knocked off.
Lastly try and take the 1080 out of your girlfriends computer and see if you can boot with that. This would help narrow down issues?
One more thing check if you have an igpu. Something may have failed and the motherboard switched to on board graphics. They’ll be extra vga/dvi/HDMI ports on the back. Your lack of video could just be from having your display plugged into the wrong port. So try to hook up into any video out put there.
Also perplexity, chat gpt and Gemini can be helpful in trouble shooting.
Godspeed
Seems like a decent build. Really depends on what the use case though is for your Dad. GPU pricing is just crazy. For that price id try and find a 9070xt or a equivalent Nvidia GPU. If you can get away with an igpu might be worth spending money saved on the GPU for a better CPU with an igpu and more ram.
Personally I’m trying to build something similar and an really struggling between just getting a ryzen AI 395 in a desktop with ~128gb ram and hoping that’ll hold me over till discrete gpus come down in price instead of trying to buy one now. But it doesn’t seem like they ever will…
