That is absolutely a conundrum. I’d rather support repairable hardware than even getting a used Pixel. By GOS seems like a great OS. I’m at least a couple months out from making the switch so I have a lot of time to agonize over it at least.

Mostly it’s accusations of vibe coding a supposedly secure ecosystem. The Trump thing wasn’t great, but I think it was largely blown out of proportion.
At the time I was looking for a Google replacement, which Proton kind of is. It’s got mail, calendar, and a drive, all that stuff. Since then, I’ve learned or realized that I would prefer to be invested in individual services like mailbox.org, mullvad, keepass, etc. So that if one service fails, I can just divest myself from that individual service not an entire ecosystem.
Thanks, I really appreciate the encouragement.
Oh man, I didn’t even think about banking and credit card apps.
Thank you for detailing in one paragraph what I was unable to understand after reading articles about it all last evening.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmings who work in Emergency wards at hospitals, do you do therapy for work related issues?
8·12 days agoYes. My wife is a paramedic. I’ve been in emergency services for 12 years. We go to couples therapy to help keep the stress from work infecting our relationship.
Therapy is generally a good thing, but it’s gotta be her decision too. You can’t force therapy on someone.
People in the ER see and experience stuff every day that humans are not supposed to see with any regularity. I highly suggest therapy for anyone, especially those of us in emergency services.

Games@lemmy.world•What are the best solo, free, PnP table games for someone coming from dnd burnout?English
2·15 days agoThanks for clarifying that. Yeah it’s massive. There are so many solo games in it too.
There are a lot of $20-30 games in there that I’ve had my eye on for while. Rebel Scum, This Mortal Coil, Eco-Mofos. Just really good stuff.
And it’s a great cause. I’m nowhere Minnesota but anything we can do to stop these bastards, even if it’s buying and playing games, is a good start.

5·15 days agoVantage is a great solo card game but it’s a bit expensive at $90. I really like it. Great game play loop and a fun way to use your cards while exploring. There’s also one deck dungeon for a lot cheaper. It’s not my favorite, but I play it in hotel rooms a lot because I can pack it easily.
This is a low barrier to entry solo game that is 1) free, and 2) it’ll let you know if you like this style of gaming.

For solo RPGs, I have gotten a lot out of using the Mythic Game Master Emulator with all sorts of games. I’m working on Coriolus right now, but I have had a lot of fun with simpler fantasy games like Knave and Maze Rats.
Starforged is great, but i got that on sale.
This is great for solo gaming:

So is this, even though it’s about PbP games

If you’re willing to spend $10, itch.io has an amazing bundle on right now with a bunch of solo games:

4·10 months agoI use this a lot. Usually rain spunds, but when I’m feeling spry I also like video game sound tracks and atmospheric black metal.
Where do you find “cosmic noise”?

RPGMemes @ttrpg.network•now i just need to find good screen sharing software...
5·11 months agoI really like OwlBear Rodeo. It is system agnostic simple tabletop. There is a learning curve but it’s pretty easy. It’s also great on tablets and decent on phones.
The best part is that there are a lot of 3rd party extensions to dial in your specific game mechanics. I’ve been playing Dragonbane and it has some funky mechanics that someone else made work well in OBR.

Hahahaha that is great! I didn’t see that until now. It’s a gas tank for the snowmobiles. And before you think I’m a fancy boy, they’re over a decade old and the only way to get to and from our house in the winter.
I have exactly zero Linux knowledge but I know people who do!
Thank you! I’ll check those out!
I’ll check in over there. Thanks for both suggestions!
Once I started using alarms and timers my life got much better. I rely heavily on timers to convince myself to do chores. 20 minutes of cleaning or organizing my stuff is better then 0 minutes. And 20 minutes is digestable. And also for lazy fun stuff. I can set a 1 hour timer for video games or do a hobby or whatever and the time cut off keeps me focused.
