It’s inconsistent and annoying. Expressive, yes. Gets it’s job done, yes. Absolute nightmare of a spec, YES.
The fact that JSON is a subset of YAML should tell you everything about how bloated the spec is. And of course there’s the “no” funny things.
Personally, my favourite way to write configs was using lua (because it was already part of the project so why not), but JSON does fine.
Yeah, it’s pretty difficult to find energy for personal programming stuff when your dayjob is programming stuff.

I meant that I am wondering if normal people just get the same productivity but without it being flipped on or off randomly, provided they don’t get distracted by something. You know, kinda like learning that it’s not just a tv thing that people can say “okay, let’s do this” and actually sit down and do “this” and not have to beat their brain into submission first.
Oh yeah. Wonderful memories of psyching myself up to do Thing and then suddenly getting nagged to do Thing and dropping in absolute negatives on the good old motivation.
That’s a wonderful example at the end there, gotta remember it when I talk to people who don’t get why I was standing in doors dressed and couldn’t go outside.
I’m beginning to suspect “superfocus” is just what normal people do when they focus.
I feel like it’s a little disingenuous to call it “Doom Tech” when it’s modern GZDoom with proper full 3D and shit.
But it is true that it’s way more systemic than anything AAA in the genre.
I mean, I clearly remember firefox being terrible back when Chrome was just beginning to take off.
It was a lumbering monolith that ate all your ram and loaded pages at a glacial pace. Chrome was a multi-process revolution from that.
Then, firefox got it’s shit together and chrome got overloaded with corpo bullshit.
Because when you’ve got like 4 hours a week of free time to prepare for the game, grabbing something 5e compatible and ad-libbing parts you didn’t feel like preparing ahead of time is easier than learning a whole new system.
Preach.
The game does have a bit of a balance problem, but as usual the players are not the best at designing the solution.

In my experience, it pays to have a conversation with the DM out of game time to tell them that they should probably describe whatever there is to see in the room.
If there’s no time pressure and no traps, there’s no reason you can’t just say “I rummage through every shelf in NPCs personal library in search of the book!” or something.
It’s cheap to print cards, and they’re very shelf-stable.
This industry will take a long while to realize it’s dead, if it dies.
If it’s any consolation, the last mission is generally considered to be the weakest part of the game.
It’s good for a $30 survival game.
Huge world map to explore, a variety of different monsters to capture, bosses to work up to, automation that allows the more annoying parts of survival games to happen in the background as you explore, space to fiddle with the monster capture stuff through breeding and condensing.
A lot of people I know enjoy it for the shock value of pokemon-with-guns that you put into a sweatshop and then butcher, but you don’t have to do it that way and it can just be a not-pokemon game where your gardevoir helps you craft stuff.
Probably something more like RimWorld would be it. Filters on boxes, task bar to tell your anubis to stop wasting time on mining and prioritize crafting, stuff like that.
Some codecs (and by extension, some video players), tend to hitch when skipping backwards since they don’t necessarily store enough keyframes.
So if you have a choice between “skip back three times and get the weird half-decoded video or hitching three times” vs “skip back too much and then skip forward/watch the video”, the latter can technically provide a better experience. Especially if you’re streaming the data and it may have discarded what you’ve watched already or you’ve skipped a chunk and it was never loaded.
Yeah, the sole reason I don’t have linux on my old laptop is that lenovo has completely proprietary video drivers for it. I’m talking “manufacturer’s installers don’t think there’s a video card there” proprietary.

Yeah, I have 300 hours from doing all the quests up to ng+ but I couldn’t bring myself to repeat all that. Especially the temples.
…and also I am very impressed by the engine. Fallout 4 would have me running into LOD version of the world if I sprinted for too long, Starfield handles setav speedmult 500 like a champ. Makes exploring a breeze.
Personally, I prefer duplicate keys to be eaten by the parser but I can see how it’d be beneficial to prevent them.
