A lot of what I wanted to post already got put here, but Bunhouse isn’t here yet.

That’s clever. Given the spoken nature of a Dungeons & Dragons session, a DM could just meme by naming a character literally the English word “barnacles” but by pronouncing it as “barn” + “uh” + “cleese” (to rhyme with “please”) I imagine people would not think of that word.
I don’t like when people are intentionally contrarian, but I honestly first picked it up as soft “g” and pronounce it that way to this day. I’m aware that just replying to your comment with this disagreement might make me look intentionally contrarian and like I’m just denying it to ruffle feathers though ^^;
I also read a lot as a kid and to this day, I prefer it to video or audio-based content delivery. So I also mispronounce things, especially if they are not words that would come up in daily conversation.
The “primer” thing is something I just learned from you, verified with Merriam-Webster, and I am not happy about it because a primer primes you to learn about the subject, so I always thought it was said like “prime” + “er”…
What!?
I’ve been saying “gi-ahs”…
This has been my primary summer game, although I admit what with the seasons changing in game I am now in winter while being hot indoors. Was going through responses to see if anyone brought up Stardew.

Look up how social norms in that country differ from your own. It would suck to need the bathroom and to then find out, while in the bathroom stall, that toilet paper is not provided because the norm is that everyone brings their own, and to hope that 1) there’s someone in the stall next to you 2) who understands you and 3) is nice enough and 4) has enough to share with you.
Re: pictures of things that have already been photographed a million times
You want to remember your experience. And although the place you went is certainly part of it, when you are older you will be more likely to want to see you and your SO’s past selves having a good time, than a picture of the sights some photographer has captured much better than you have.
Feel free to disregard this advice if either of you are photographers, whether professional or amateur, as you would probably reap more enjoyment from taking that picture than the rest of us, and are probably way more likely to be the person capturing the place better than the rest of us can. And if it is a unique moment or you really think nobody else has put this sight on the internet already, your choice!
I needed to see it explained this way for it to really click for me. I think the part about the pictures of the sights alone being easily found online was what clinched it for me. I can go “see” that again easily, the scarce part is the part where I am there. A picture of me and a loved one at the sight might be valuable to us two no matter how amateur my photography skills. A picture of the sight probably will not be.
But it’s also relevant that some people already know this and still derive a lot of pleasure from taking a picture of the place themselves, knowing that a lot of other good pictures also exist. If you are one of those people who know that you really like taking pictures of it yourself, feel free to disregard this advice! It’s useful for quite a few people (I think most people?) but not universally applicable. Exceptions almost always exist.
Piggybacking to add that it will make you feel disappointed when you plan for 5 things and don’t get to them all, or don’t end up fully enjoying them because you were rushing from place to place. Plan some things, but give yourself room to want to take a lot of extra time at one place, or to explore stuff nearby.
This is why I feel so so lucky to be a small-breasted woman who does not live somewhere hot 24/7.
If I ever do put on a bra it is because I expect I’ll be running (only situation I have been in where breasts hurt braless, very thankful), or because the silhouette of my nipples is visible through my clothes and I don’t want it to be. A good deal of my wardrobe won’t show nipple even if I go braless, but not all of it is like that and so I put on a bra.
Have not played Outer Wilds, just here because I am curious what other people will say and to add more engagement to the Fediverse
I had a similar experience with Pikuniku. Controls just didn’t click with me at all. I could work them but it was frustrating. I proceeded to drop it and bounce off of gaming for a full on year.
Euro Truck Simulator is good to turn your brain off to.
Except when parking. I’m bad at parking in real life. Naturally I suck at parking a truck in a video game.
I also bought Trombone Champ on the sale! Have not started yet, as I am devoting my attention to a few other games right now and I prefer not to split my game brain toooo many different ways, but excited to as a former band kid who has never played a trombone in real life.
Now that I think of it I feel it was probably the perfect instrument to make this game for. It has Actual Music written for it, as a legit instrument some people devote themselves to and get good at, so there’s definitely enough depth to make a game out of it, but it is also one of the instruments more likely to be funny.
Thank you so much! This was a very helpful comment.
I asked this once on the Talos Principle subreddit and got absolutely wrecked for asking in the first place awhile back, I’ll try again here:
If I like puzzle games but do not enjoy philosophy, would I enjoy the Talos Principle?
Came here on this meme just to say the only reason I am seeing this is opening up kbin.run on a different browser, so I am not automatically logged in and thus able to avoid this. Learned my lesson, only log in on the usual browser for kbin. But I logged in to say this, even if it gets me downvoted to hell, because it is on topic and might help other people with ADHD.
Another thing that I recommend to cut out, if you see it taking your life, ironically, is communities just like this. I lost so many hours of my life doomscrolling on other ADHD peoples’ vent posts making myself more and more miserable about how hopeless things look for them, too, just like me, how do we get out of the misery rut? I am still not perfect and still struggling, but blocking or curating this kind of community away helped me. Reading fellow ADHD people sharing my sentiments and worries does not make me feel any better, it is just, for me, unhealthy cycling of the same damn hopeless ideas.
If reading ADHDMemes helps you, by all means keep it. Not everyone is going to have the same reaction as me, for some I imagine it would be helpful to see this community.
But if you are like me and need to see this and you need some kind of push to take any action (it took me years to kick doomscrolling, and as evidenced by my willingness to click on this post it is still tempting, which is why I have to curate these communities away), block this. Block the meme communities for your other conditions if you have any. Heck, even the main community for it, if it is more vent-y than solution-y. Or do like I have done (I am kind of oversensitive and there are so many iterations of communities that tend to post doom-y content) and keep your feed to just Subscribed stuff, none of which can involve doom-y stuff. I waste far less time on Reddit-equivalents and Reddit thanks to me doing this. Now I waste it elsewhere, but at least it is something I enjoy and not something that makes me even more stressed and unhappy.
I am not sure whether to pick up Noita because I have heard of its great magic mechanics, it also sounds like something that will frustrate me way too much. I’ll probably try on a friend’s computer first
Started !citiesskylines@lemmy.ml, still playing Stardew Valley (I went up 100 hours in about a month!), and still slowly progressing on My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom -Pirates of the Disturbance- as I yell about on the !otomegames@kbin.run weekly threads. I have also been trying various !incremental_games@incremental.social, including a billion bananas and Squareixion.
For transparency, just a subscriber on most of those communities, but I do mod !otomegames@kbin.run.
