I’ll have to ask, she worked as a COBOL contractor for multiple banks historically so it might be one of those “who you know” type things. I’ll circle back and reply here if I hear anything.

I just got a 765cfm battery-powered leaf blower and…
…it’s so much fun. Mindlessly entertaining. I don’t even care if I just blow the leaves back and forth, it’s just…weirdly fun.
Also fun to blow random things around the house until someone gets mad.
Oh I see what you’re saying.
Dang, maybe I should learn PHP…
Like, 70% or more of the web runs on PHP. That’s also not going anywhere anytime soon.
My friend’s mom gets called back for COBOL stints at major US banks all the time. I don’t know how long it’ll last, but apparently the list of people to select from and bring in is ridiculously short.
Tell me more about this immediate fog thing, what causes it and what doesn’t it clear quickly?
edit: Wait the masks only produce oxygen for 30s or the breathable oxygen at that altitude is only available for ~30s?
This might not be the perfect analogy but this made me think of people I know who find healthy relationships “boring” and prefer unhealthy relationships with a lot of fighting and drama because it’s more exciting.
But at the end of the day the healthy relationship is healthier, it just “feels” uncomfortable until one can realign to it. As another comment says, you feasibly have more time to do the same tasks and, thus, avoid any stress or anxiety but that is possibly going to feel weird and uncomfortable because of the anxiety you were so used to attaching to it.
Maybe it’ll just take some time?
When did a Pennsylvania McDonald’s get involved before?
Jesus christ that’s…amazing.
This surprises me because McDonald’s app is hands down the worst app I’ve ever encountered in the history of all Android apps.
It’s is sluggish, ignores touches/taps half the time, doesn’t adhere to Android best practices for flow, crashes a lot, errors a lot, etc.
But OK McDonald’s. Fuck off.
I mean, make fun of me if you want, but I saw The Beekeeper in theaters. Maybe not super original but it wasn’t explicitly marketed as a remake or rehash or whatever.
No, I didn’t have a free ticket or voucher or anything, I paid full price for the ticket.
Yes, I snuck in alcohol (they don’t serve).
As a popcorn flick, I enjoyed my 1.5 hours or whatever.
Yes, I paid a stupid amount of money for popcorn, it’s a local theater not tied to any mega corps.
I’m guessing it is meant to say “single” but I’m honestly not sure.
I actually tried to do this with a bar I owned back in the day. It was exciting / hopeful.
It went into effect January 1st, 2020. January for bars is rough because people do “dry January” so we hoped February and March would be good.
We all know what happened. It didn’t survive. Spent a good year or so continuing to pay wages and healthcare out of my own pocket, but I hit a point where I had to call it (mostly because I ran out of money and couldn’t get any more loans).
I plan to try again in the future, once I have the loans paid off and some padding saved again.
I also dream of a day where somewhat self-sustaining communes become more prevalent. Everyone living together on a shared plot and exchanging goods & services instead of money. Maybe it’s a pipe dream? I don’t know. I feel like it’ll become necessary over the next 4 years though.
I used to drink 4 red bulls or 2-3 rockstar energy drinks per day. This was on top of any coffee.
Now, diagnosed and medicated, I’m down to zero and I rarely drink coffee.
I’d say over half. I and many others in my circle are already executing on our escape. If we even can…
America is done.
For those that can’t leave, find a community, build a commune, and support each other. Strength in numbers.
I know you’re joking, but semi-related, I highly recommend the Kuhn Rikon peelers.
