So, as the title says I want to start a run on WoW.

I have always had mild interest on the game, but didn’t have money to pay for its subscription when I had the time to play it.

Now I still don’t have a lot of time, but my interest has grown. I would like to play with my girlfriend and enjoy the journey of exploring new places. What do you recommend to fulfill these expectations? I have some interest to check classic without expansion WoW, but I have heard that is easy to get lost.

So wow and its versions get confusing fast. Given what you have said I would recommend either the permanent “era” servers or the anniversary servers.

Era is the original 2004 1-60 experience and has its own dedicated player base of folks who want nothing else. Its pretty fun, though very much lacking in many quality of life features.

Anniversary servers are new ish progression servers that have just moved to the burning crusade expac so its now levels 1 - 70 with the addition of outland. This is still early enough in the timeline of wow that it won’t be overwhelming in endless “dead” content

Theres also retail (modern wow with every content expac since 2004), mists of pandaria classic (the first set of classic progression servers) as well has hardcore(one life, permadeath)

Which ever version you choose to play,I would recommend the addon questie, which you can get from wowinterface or curseforge. It’ll make questing in any of the classic servers a lot more manageable and significantly less confusing

Hey, thanks for responding! That addon sounds really useful. Perhaps will give a try to Anniversary Servers, sounds like a good middle ground.
