I forgot Mastodon was on F-Droid, shoulda checked there first
The truthier something claims to be, the less it is.
When I was out for a walk the other month, I saw a newspaper in a waterproof bag, propped up at the side of the path by a hedge. It was called The Light, and boldly claimed to be “the uncensored truth”. Would you believe it, it turned out to be full of Covid conspiracy nonsense and anti-semitism.
In my day we just found discarded grotty porn in hedges, now it’s right wing nutbaggery. I fear for our youth. We need to distribute more copies of Reader’s Wives and Razzle across the flora and fauna of Britain.
Truth Social is built with Mastodon fun fact lmao
Yep, and I’m pretty sure they almost got sued over not disclosing it too
If it’s based in Mastodon then it’s he wrong to say it’s the exact opposite of Mastodon, no?
That’s like saying a Lemmy app is the opposite of another Lemmy app, if one app defaulted to Lemmygrad and the other to Exploding Heads.
Yup, they didn’t comply with the license Mastodon uses (Affero General Public License) by not publishing the source code and making it accessible via something like a button and they got a legal notice to either add one or get sued
Of course they started with an existing platform to save time and money. When anyone else does it, it’s a smart way to save time and money. When anyone related to captain cheese ball does it, it’s because he’s cheap as shit. I wonder if the devs ever got paid.
They literally violated the AGPL license of Mastodon and thought they’d get away with it.
Literally the only reason why we know it’s based on Mastodon is because of some smart redditor forcing a page crash exposing the Mastodon error message warranting further investigation.
It wasn’t until they got called out and got a formal notification of the breach in terms that it got fixed; because if they didn’t with the 30days allotted time they would’ve been sued.AGPL is beautiful https://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.html#license-text
They actually tried to hide that fact and even removed references to Mastodon in the UI until SF Conversancy threatened to sue them and permanently cut their license to it.
Have you ever heard of the F-droid-store?
The Google Play Store is more secure.
How so?
Why Fdroid is not secure:
- Hosts an outdated APK client.
- Utilizes an obsolete installation method.
- Does not take advantage of modern appstore features.
- Has no moderation.
- Has no old app deletion.
- Has an arbitrary FOSS only rule.
- Does all building and signing themselves.
-
Not outdated
-
That’s the standard method
-
What features?
-
AFAIK it dods
-
Just don’t install the old apps then.
-
That’s literally why it was made. To distribute FOSS apps.
Here is a more detailed explanation: https://privsec.dev/posts/android/f-droid-security-issues/
Accrescent is a new appstore that fixes all these issues but its still in alpha stage and has 11 apps right now.
I replaced fdroid with Obtainium that pulls apks from github, gitlab, fdroid, etc and it has support for auto updates. It’s a little better than Fdroid but still has its own issues.

Well truth social is a mastodon server so same thing?
Is it weird that I find the “Teen” category the most disturbing?
No, I found that disturbing too. What rating do you give something that’s not fit for consumption at any age? NSFL?
5 minutes ago I searched the app store for the word “Arby’s”. First result? The Hardee’s app. SEO is a cancer.
Downvote for litchally.
