Gaming@beehaw.org•Linux has had a great year, but there are two reasons I can't tear myself away from WindowsEnglish
5·23 days agoI have to run “fsck /dev/sda9” every time my Mint laptop battery dies. No idea why or how to automate that if it’s possible. The last time took like 9 hours to check everything, AND THEN told me I had to run some check again and can’t use “-y” and had to manually enter “y” for every prompt. Wtf and why? I thought Mint was the normie distro made for me.
Preorder, no. I don’t usually buy brand new games. FF Tactics remake was the most recent and I needed to see a few days of reviews to build the trust to buy it. Maybe if Fromsoft releases another one-player game I’ll consider that. I’m not sure the types of developers I usually buy games from tend to even do preorder, it seems to be bigger studios from what I have seen.
Early access, yes for a few select indie developers that I want to support. ATLYSS because it’s priced low and looks great. Into the Unwell will be a day 1 purchase once it reaches early access, since I have played the closed beta and know I want it. Trinity 64 will be another one I’m excited for if it gets an EA release. I’m ok with EA for these because they’re the types of games I yearn for and I want more of them, and I know my contribution makes an impact to the devs.

3·26 days agoIt looks great and it’s been on my wishlist. Unfortunately the price is not right for me yet, and there were other games of higher priority on my wishlist for now. Maybe next year.

2·2 months agoKeep playing TUNIC. It’s great.
Someone else mentioned Death’s Door which I see as TUNIC’s overlooked cousin.
Some others that are similar, have either played them or purchased and not played yet, due to similar taste to yours:
Alwa’s Awakening & Alwa’s Legacy
Anodyne
Blossom Tales series
Fountains
Lunacid
The Messenger
Moonlighter series

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the best reasons people have given you for not wanting to try Linux?English
7·2 months agoI use Mint for my streaming laptop and it works fine - great, even.
My main PC is still on Windows because from what I understand FL Studio needs WINE to run, and I could never get WINE to work on the streaming laptop. That plus 10 years of files and shit that I don’t know if they will work or whatever if I did switch over. Pretty sure most or all of my Steam games would work fine, it’s just too many unknowns for everything else. I’d be happy to be proven wrong but it’s too big of a hassle for now.

11·2 months agoI’m also a PC gamer who prefers using a controller. No doubt a mouse is better for aiming, I just find a controller more comfortable and easier to relax with while playing, especially after working a desk job all day.
You should check out Remnant 2 and Risk of Rain 2.
Pretty spot on video.
I just ordered the plushy because it’s on sale and I love Chewnic so much. I love the fox.
I haven’t played very many, and these might not be pure Metroidvanias, but I recommend:

4·2 months agoI followed the dev logs on Youtube and learned a few Godot tricks from them. Got this on day one to support the dev and indie scene and just started playing. It’s a blast. Fast paced hack and slash parkour action. It feels extremely satisfying to clear a room of enemies as you whip around.

Their songs The Scientist and Clocks are emotive and memorable. Besides those they sound like a safe and watered-down mid era Radiohead.
