Probably. As others have said here no one seems bothered by female leads in good stories - but the focus on gender when it’s a bad story is probably sexist.

I’m likely guilty of this myself, grumbling about “woke nonsense” and blaming the ideological messaging for the bad writing rather than just the bad writers.

It’s not all doom and gloom though - check out this list of books. Lots of highly rated entries there with female protagonists - many of which are targeted at a broad audience, not just women.

I was hugely impressed by how well Caves of Qud handles controller support. Definitely worth a look if you’re interested in how these types of games can maintain access to so many different functions.

I quite like adding a fuzzy finder to the history search - helps when I can only remember part of the command line I was using. Have just started using atuin.sh which seems okay.

I’d say the explosion of gaming in general through the 00s helped make PC gaming more mainstream. Consoles with online gaming helped blur the lines between platforms.

Then there was also World of Warcraft. It may have only reached ~10 million people then, but it seemed to reach well beyond those who were part of the traditional PC gaming culture.

Spills and dropped items are kind of expected in a kitchen, no? Wouldn’t most of this damage be categorized as normal wear and tear? As a tenant it’s not expected that you hand back the property exactly as it was when you took possession - it’s up to the landlord to budget for normal maintenance.

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous is an amazing game if you can look past the politics though. Also, the spyware thing is pretty standard now - it’s usually called “telemetry” in most EULAs. I haven’t read it closely enough to know if they’re overreaching any worse than others, but they did walk back including the AppFlyer tool after pushback from users.

I liked the look of Aurora as well, ultimately decided that Bazzite was a better fit as I spend so much time gaming. Still learning how to get things set up the way I want, but at least Steam works out of the box.

It’s not surprising that people don’t show up to vote if they don’t believe they have a voice. Provide proper representation for them rather than the slightly different shades of purple on offer now. Allow them to voice the nuance of their positions and you’d probably have Kamala as the president elect right now.

This is just the trolley problem - you’re trying to force them to pull a lever when many people feel that the only moral choice is not to.

Give them a way to participate and they’ll be able to weigh the options.

Then work to change it. Your voting system is broken and makes millions feel disenfranchised. People should be able to vote their conscience without worrying about stupid political games.

I’ve criticized then for their voting behavior as well - that if they want outcomes aligned to their values that dictates a particular voting strategy.

But you don’t get to blame them for the outcome. That’s on the broken system, and the failure of the losing party to appeal to them.

As mentioned in the article these can be quieter than a retail unit. The large fans move a lot of air and the large filter area means it’s easier to pull that air through; both combined mean a lower fan speed is needed for a given throughput.

HEPA filters may not be necessary - it seems that homemade air purifiers with standard filters can outperform them in clean air delivery rate, arguably the most important factor for a purifier. The air may not be as clean with each pass through it, but it’ll move much more air.

Have you considered moving somewhere that’s better aligned with your values? It’s not something to undertake lightly, but I know that moving helped me a lot. Totally different situation for me though.

For me it was basically just moving somewhere bigger, even if I didn’t get much better at making connections just knowing it was possible made a difference.

Sometimes taking what seems like the right stand on an issue can deepen the harm - be careful about getting too extreme.

For example when the whole “gamergate” thing was going on and people were like “Why can’t I just enjoy Tomb Raider?” - one side was standing up for diversity and inclusion by denouncing them as basement-dwelling incels who should self-terminate. So that naturally drove some to those right-wing assholes.

Sometimes it takes a bit of work to change someone’s context so they can get closer to your perspective.
