Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•how did you make the switch from reddit to lemmy.. i'm trying to myself but struggling to nglEnglish
9·1 month agoI kinda had to accept that Lemmy wouldn’t have the same hooks to trigger impulsive scrolling because Lemmy isn’t a corporation desperate to mine you for every ounce of data you can provide.
Also took me a while to find a group of communities with content I like.
I sometimes reinstall Reddit just see what’s happening over there, whenever I open it, it feels like I’m being inundated with ads, both obviously and via the ingenuine comment threads.

4·2 months agoYeah I recently replayed IW. I actually enjoyed it. I felt I didn’t appreciate it for what it was in its own time.
I use a dock with my steam deck. Highly recommended. I was shocked at how seamless it was as an experience.
I would argue that if you’re an Xbox gamer with no interest in PC and no interest in trying different eco-systems then yes the new ROG Xbox Ally will be your best bet. You might not get quite the same performance as the SteamOS models but you’ll have access to your GamePass, cross-buy library titles if you have any and a familiar interface.
EDIT: Woof, after seeing the ROG Ally Xbox X, there’s no way could I recommend it.

231·2 months agoI keep being enticed back to trying the game again with each new release but the gameplay just doesn’t grab me and there’s such a limited amount of story that it doesn’t get its hooks in me. I guess I’m just not a crafting/survival type.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do you guys just have flawless experiences or what?English
2·3 months agoI get what you’re saying…if that were my experience I’d be jack of it too. I’ve got similar spec and am running Nobara which is pretty much Steam OS for people with Nvidia cards. The only thing. The only thing I got really into the weeds on was setting up Plex. Which wasn’t my first preference but I couldn’t work out how to get Jellyfin to cast to my old Chromecast. Other than that though I’ve had a great experience that ‘just works’.

4·4 months agoI discovered Prey (2017) a few years back. It is so my shit.
It’s probably the worst named game of all time. It’s essentially a sequel to System Shock 2 and Bioshock. Should have been called Xenoshock or something because it’s generic name is nothing like the really original game underneath.
You are fully in the driver’s seat, with a crazy amount of freedom in how you want to get from one section of the space station to the next.
The opening scene, once I discovered the reality behind the scenes, I was hooked.

1023·4 months agoThey targeted gamers.
Gamers.
We’re a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We’ll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it’s fun.
We’ll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We’re already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren’t shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We’ve been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that’s already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they’ve threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can’t is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You’re not special, you’re not original, you’re not the first; this is just another boss fight.
